I think they should just get rid of the spending slider, it's pretty redundant (did I spell that right?). That would give the player more direct control over how much they spent on what.

You guys seriously need to chill out. It doesn't matter that GalCiv II only got a one page review. It will still get a lot of exposure just by appearing in PC Gamer. And, from what I can tell GalCIv II will make stardock a very good return on their investment, so they're not really going to complain either.
It crashes a lot on me too, but it is after all a beta.
They need to add a tech after terraforming called genesis bomb. It would allow you to turn class 0 planets into habitable ones. Of course, it would need to be very expensive in both research and production of the ships carry it. This would certainly create a second planet grab and result in a lot more tension in the later part of the game.
please don't stop playing with the numbers until the game is a balanced as it can reasonably expected to be. wiki sites and such can always update their info.
I disagree galciv does have a soul, it's just not fully developed yet. Each of the races has a distinct behaviour, especially on the harder difficulty levels. The choice of weapons is very important and there are subtle differences between each of them, much more so than the shitty units from civ4. The thing that is most promising is that the developement team seam to be very aware of the problem issues with the game and is taking very direct steps
you need to build lots of the basic economic buidings on your initial planet. Unfortunately it's probably to late once you've reached the point where you have negative cash flow at 0% production.
I have found the A.I. to be pretty decent, with only the occassional blunder. Though it does seem that certain races are much more effective than others. Part of the problem is that the racial bonuses really aren't balanced all that well. Stardock has promised improved A.I. with the 1.1 patch, hopefully they will rebalance the bonuses as well
