My first game in TA is coming to a close (immense, so it takes a while).
Curious question: Did you enable ascension victory, and if yes, how was a (relatively) quick ascension victory prevented?
5) This is probably me just not understanding something rather than a bug, but after researching alliances, there doesn't appear to be any alliance option in the trade screen (perhaps I have to raise my friendliness level w/the target first?). Would be nice if it would
So it sounds like a good game start option would be to also allow turning regular events off.
Yep. Before I wrote my first post in this thread, I actually checked the game options, because I somehow expected such an option to be there, like in most modern strategy games that sport random events. I was a bit surprised that it isn't, although personally not bothered, since I wouldn't use it anyway. But yes, generally it's a good idea to include such a option. There
Was backlash against this kind of thing part of the reason why normal events were reined *FAR* in in power, and mega events were made an option? I only came into GC2 toward the end of DA, a few months before TA came out, so I'm interested in the history of the game. Sometimes, it's just nice to know where a game's developers have come from, so you can get a better idea where they're going.
Umm, this was in 2003, so my memory is a bit fuzzy. AFAIR, there *was* some criti
Interesting discussion. I may even be able to contribute something meaningful. :) I'm a bit surprised at how certain some Stardock officials seem to be about the validity of EULA's. As far as I know, EULA's are not valid in Europe, and I'm certain that they aren't valid here in Germany. The reasoning is the following: 1. With your purchase, you already acquired (by German law) any rights that the EULA could grant you. 2. Therefore, users are not required to agree to the EUL
Those are the only two options I consider because any partially balanced choice is (quite highly) inferior.
I agree that the present inferiority of a mixed strategy is a problem. But I don't agree with your proposed solution.
Decouple the sliders and you finally have a reason to do something other than all-X without deliberately hamstringing yourself. Sounds like that opens up a lot *more* strategic decisions to me!
Not really. If you decouple
Too bad this game is probably of non-interest to us European players.
I've played the game's predecessor (which came with my TotalGming.Net subscription at that time), and I certainly enjoyed it. It also taught me some bits about the US election system which I hadn't known before. But basically it was a very enjoyable, easy-to-get-into, well-designed game. The only thing that really bothered me was how Reagan was apparently seen as some sort of ultimate politician - that
Have you actually tried downloading it? Some years ago, I had trouble with my internet connection - random data corruption, which prompted Stardock Central to download *everything* again because the CRC check failed. I then mailed the problem to Stardock, and although the cause of the problem was clearly on *my* end, they updated Stardock Central so that it now only re-downloads those single files which failed the CRC check, not the whole package. So, I'd suggest to try downloa
I HATE events that tip the balance so radically. I want research, strategy, tactics etc. to be what wins or loses for me or the AI .... not "magic" events that make all my careful planning (or the AIs) suck.
Personally, I actually enjoy those balance-tipping random events. They make the game less predictable, and therefore force me to adapt, instead of just unwinding a carefully planned "winning strategy" again and again. I also don't think that random events are "magic"
1. Adjust map scrolling speed according to zoom level. Currently, the same scrolling speed setting will make map scrolling uncontrollably fast when zoomed in, and at the same time unbearably slow when zoomed out. This makes map scrolling unusable as a feature. Simply modifying scroll speed by zoom level would solve the issue. 2. Let the AI bring constructors when they destroy enemy mining starbases. It's still far too easy to control the majority of resources by simply parking a constru
I'm running TA on a German version of Windows 2000 (SP4) with no problems.
I just had a TotA game where I bought two planets from the Thalans for some medium-level techs. Observations: - Only the Thalans were willing to trade their planets, the 8 other opponents weren't. - The Thalans were not willing to trade 2 planets in one round, no matter what I offered them. They were willing to trade away the second planet in the next trading session though - I was playing as the humans with *additional* diplomatic bonuses, so I attributed the surprisi
Hi Anyone actually reading this? Anyways, here#s the next one: 18. The description of the Basic Factory apparently has two sentences mixed into each other: "The basic factory increases this colony's the social + military production on this planet by up to 8 more industrial units." <br/
Don't know whether GalCiv has a specific screenshot fuction, but you can do it the same way as with any other application: Press the "PrintScreen" key on year keyboard, this buffers the current screen in the clipboard. Then open any imaging program (Microsoft Paint will do, and it's packaged with Windows, so you should have it anyways) and paste the clipboard content into it with Ctrl-V.
Since I'm at it anyways ... 16. In the screen "Customize your civilization", tab "Overview", the activation of the scroll arrows for the bonuses of the political party is mixed up. Just go to the "Political" tab, choose a party with more than three bonuses, and go back to the "Overview" tab. The part of the screen that displays your party will list only the first two bonuses. To the right of this, two scroll arrows appear. However, only the "scroll up" arrow can be clicked, which doesn'
Hi I just bought Dark Avatar and played my firdst game. I actually intended to wait a little until it gets cheaper, as I have little time to play at the moment, but then I thought what the heck. I've had such good experiences with Stardock and Stardock support in the past (like having them update Stardock Central specifically after I reported a downloading problem), they deserve that their produc
st me on this. My English skills tend to fool me much too often.
I bet on a 7:15 pm EST release. Let's see whether we can get more bets coming in
n that you get all these games cheaper on TG.net as on pre-order, while still being able to participate in the beta - if you're already pretty sure that you will be interested in GalCiv betas and expansion packs, TG.net is the best offer imo.

I'll be part of the beta. You'll find more people's answers in this thread - perhaps we should continue there?
