Putting the .ini in the main C folder did not help Something else i just noticed , the BL Weather kept doing the Zip error so i went back to the 5 Day Gadget , what i noticed was that it did not create a .ini , so i read the "About Weather.rtf" , and it said to put in location and read the address bar and use the last 8 numbers (there were only 8 numbers anyway when i did this , the rest was text) and went to Weather Yahoo.com and entered my City,State in the Search
JimDirt
I have a question , What is supposed to be in the Weather.ini ??? , there were numbers in it but it was not my zip code , i erased what was in it and put in my Zip Code but left the s that was on the second line , but it still gives the Zip error , so now i put the ini out in the main C folder to see if that will make a difference
As far as other apps/gadgets , moshi , i have looked and looked for a simple stand alone weather gadget (without all the other added things like Calenders etc that i dont want) , what adni18 offers is about it for a simple stand alone weather gadget that just displays on the screen without needing to click on something or open something that takes up the entire desktop (the Weather Channel App) , i have searched and searched , the one Wizard1956 is linking to , has a calender added , an
As far as conflicts , it is the only App/Gadget i have running on this PC , with the exception of the Weather Channel App , but i installed that AFTER this one started giving the Zip Code error , the weird issue is i have tried the 5 day , the BL , and the Weather III Gadgets and they all seem to give the same error , the Weather Channel App does not give any error , but as i previously stated it takes up the desktop to view the weather conditions , which is annoying and why
Well putting it on the Exclusion List in Windows Firewall , did not fix it , it just did it again , from yesterday when i set it , so i dont know what else to do , again , my laptop with Vista 64 Home Premium has not had any issues or errors at all , its on the exact same connection , and again , its only on the XP PC , that has 1 other weather programs (The Weather Channel App) which has not given any issues , its just too big, it takes up almost the
OK , i figured out how to add it to the Firewall Exception List (i had to search for the folder the .exe was in), so i will see how that goes over the next week , i am going to try to avoid re-formatting , since it takes about 20 hours to get all my programs re-installed and its a older slower PC (AMD Athlon XP 3000+Socket A ,2gb DDR2 , 256mb Video Card) so i just dont want to do it unless i really have no other choice, and other than this issue , i do not
It did it again this morning (i have not done the Firewall thing yet since i cant find where to do it) , this time i entered my City/State , and it popped back up again in about 5 seconds , so i entered the Zip Code and it worked , so now it does not want to accept the City/State
Hi Jim, it may be a Firewall issue, that doesn't allow weather updates from the internet, exclude this gadget from your XP Firewall, just an idea...
How do i go about doing this ?? , i looked in the Programs list in "Exceptions" and also to "Add Program" exception , and its not there , i am guessing because you said it does not install like a program it just runs , my only other option is "Add Port" and i re
The only issue is , what i wanted was a Weather Gadget that was small and not required to open anything , one that i can just glance at , these Gadgets are perfect for that , with the exception that they all keep giving the same error on the same machine , as i said , my laptop with Vista 64 works perfect
OK today is the first it has done it since the 13th , i was actually typing on another forum(dirtbike forum) when i heard the windows error ding , i finished my post , closed the page and there was the error , i re-entered my city name/state and it came right back up with the error , it did this 3 times within 1 minute till i entered the Zip Code , then it was fine again , this is still on the 5 day gadget , my Laptop has yet to give a error of any kind with the origin
83672 is good for your city, try Weiser, ID if you want... but I guess this is not the problem. When you get an error you should accept the code that exist there by default (UKXX0929) and after you can change it back to your city (83672). I have no idea why this is happening only with Windows XP and not with Vista or Seven... sorry Jim.
When i leave that # and
Hi Jim, What you write for your location? London. UK or Paris, France for example or just numbers? UKXX0929 is a city location for Hastings, United Kingdom
That is what it showed in the area where MY zip code should go when it gives the error that this appears not to be a valid zip code , my Zip Code is 83672 (USA) , and that is what i put in that area
OK mine did it again this morning so it lasted 3 days without a error , BUT , i decided to write down , since it always has something there that is NOT my zip code(i dont know if this will help or not) the zip code/text it shows in the area where you enter your zip code , it says UKXX0929 i dont know if that has any significance or not but i figured i would let you know to see if that might narrow down the issue <
Only issue with Internet Connection being the problem (i had thought so as well at first), is both my PC's are on the same Wireless Connection , and only the one with XP does it , my laptop with Vista 64 has not had one issue yet ! , on a side note , it has not done it in 2 days (basically since my last post , so yesterday and today)
Well the F-C Gadget is now doing the Zip Code error !!! [e digicons]X([/e] Is there something i am missing ??? , would a Wireless Connection have anything to do with it ?? (signal fading occasionally ??) but then , i cant figure out why every one is giving the same error within a few days of setup , but on my Laptop (also Wireless) has not had any issues at all , so that kind of blows the Wireless theory i guess ! All i want is
OK the 5 day weather gadget is also doing the same thing with the "This doesn't appear to be a valid Zip Code , Please Try Again" error , its dont it about 10 times in the last 3 minutes Going to try another one EDIT: Just set up the Weather F-C Gadget , i will report back if it does it too , hopefully not , but what could be causing this ?? , since this last time i did not restart the PC&nb
Well , its doing the Zip Code thing again , so i am guessing what triggers this is when the PC is restarted , since it worked perfect until it was restarted , i just had to re-instal(setup) it again , and again , this is on a Win XP SP3 PC EDIT: I just downloaded the "5 Day Forecast Weather Gadget" , i am hoping this one does not have the same bug , though i do wish this one was large as the other one , its pretty
Well everything was fine until i restarted my PC , then it never loaded again (today was the first i had restarted since downloading the fresh one) , so i had to download it again , , anyway this is only happening on my Win XP SP3 PC , my Laptop with Win Vista Home Premium 64 bit works fine with no issue at all ! go figure !!
So far So good !! , Its been 1 whole day with no issues since downloading the fresh one , must have been some glitch/bug in the last install , this one seems to be doing well so far !
OK , will report back
Hi Jim, Find first the "adni18_Double Weather-Calendar.exe" put it in a folder and then run it. Make your cities choices and close it with right click on it. You will find now the "weather.ini" in the above folder. Your choices will no be forgoten as long the weather.ini file exist next to .exe file.
I looked everywhere and i cant find adni18_Double Weather-Calendar.exe ,
OK , and where exactly am i putting that folder ?? , in the same location i find it ??
Thank you Jim (RND) for the message! Dear JimDirt I am not sure for which gadget you are talking about, but doesn't matter, try to put the gadget inside a folder and then put the folder on the top level of your Hard disk C. All weather gadgets are creating a "weather.ini" file that it is needed to remember your preferences, don't delete this file. Let me know if this solved your problem [/quo
Well still no word from him , i would have thought he would have contacted me by now !
