Good defensive Doctrine there Mystikmind, but for offense, you'll need those small (and up) hulls so you can have a good mix of engine, weapons and armour. Granted, I built my military ships with a small or medium hull, only because for quick strike capabilities, good punch and ability to take punches as well.&

There is a tech that allows this, but indirectly: The Orbital Fleet Center (or Tower or whatever) which makes all your ship in orbit around your worlds to act as a single fleet when under attack. You get it after you researched the Space Militarisation tech. Well, it depends; the core designs are good because in case of a sudden war or whatever, you can start pumping ships easy, instead of taking some 10-15 minutes to play around the shipyard. The Korx are a good pick; they won't go all WAAAAAARRRRRR on you, since they are mostly traders; but if you pick a diffrent alignement they JUST might attack; Granted, the only time they declare war on me (I play Terran), they claimed someone paid they a good chunk of creds to get in trouble with us. Or get a military race (Taurians are ok) and maybe have the Altarians in your team to back you up: they research, you bombard.
