Are you talking about the carrier capital ship or the carrier cruiser ? Most people have 3 or 4 carrier cap ships and 50 to 100 cruisers. Adding a couple of squadrons to the cap ship doesnt do much. Its usually the cruisers people mod, and so adding 1 squadron to 100 crusier carriers adds a great deal of craft for the program to keep track of and display. Add 3 and suddenly your adding 300 extra entities to the combat. At that point, it can be a lag problem. (Been there, done

The rate of squadron increase as capital ships level up is also changeable in their entity file. Be a little careful in adding extra squadrons. Depending on your computer spec, adding too many squadrons can create lag.
I'm quite happy with 1.05, so will probably forego further patches. :)
Well there you go. I thought Impulse was a website, and it turns out to be a program. I cant say that thrills me very much. The last thing I need on my computer is yet another program that only gets used once, or once a year. I think the Stardock PR department needs to do a little work on educating people about this. Even reading talk about the current beta didnt adequately convey how to get it. The OP obviously has no choice, but I will be reconsidering 1.1 based on i
Actually, I think a little more info would be good on that question. Such as a url to go to. 'Impulse' may be meaningful to those in the know, but its basically meaningless for someone new to Stardock. I for one know the name, know its a download mechanism, but wouldnt have a clue where to find it. So can we buy a vowel and get a tad more info ?
I havent bothered with the beta as yet. I'd rather wait for the full release. If the flak has been downgraded in 1.1, then I'll just mod it back up again :) My problem is the net connection generally. I've got fast broadband, but we get random periods where the bandwidth completely stops for anything up to several minutes at a time, and there is nothing one can do about it. Its mainly to do with the path the net takes from here in Australia to the site, via key overloaded site
Thanks for that. Puts me right off playing MP :) Seriously though, from what I read, the maps in MP dont suit me at all, hence your answer. I dont like maps with exposed flanks. Why are flaks ineffective in MP when they work pretty well (massed) in single player ? I always have at least 20 in a fleet and they work well in keeping strike craft away. I tried without them and took casualties, so went back to using them. Having an epic battle and then surrendering is not my idea o
That too :)
The only thing I would suggest to add to this is researching capital ships abilities up to level 10. I got sick in big games of having idle fleets at blocking points doing nothing, when in reality they would be training hard. So I changed the files to allow each capital ship to be trained all the way to full. In your cap ship only game, this would allow some differences in the ships, based on how well you get your economy going, which allows you to spend the money on t
Have you loaded any mods into the mods directory ? At a guess, if the program cannot find any mods, it doesnt display the option to select them.
If the main object is to build counters to what someone else is building, how do you handle a balanced fleet ? Say 3 each of each capital ship, 50 of each cruiser and frigate, and 150 strike craft (however many carriers that needs). Just interested.
I dont think it matters what race you start as, they all have their issues and strengths. Its a matter of playing until you understand what they are and how to overcome an issue or use a strength. When you colonise, you need to upgrade the infrastructure of the planet to avoid a panelty. Ignoring this can mean you never have any money, so when you colonise, you need to do an upgrade or 2 to the planet itself to remove the panelty. Lock the teams. Turn off Pirates.
Depends on the planet type. But usually 2 upgrades will put you to no panelty. Just check the screen for each upgrade and it will show you what it does.
I dont think I got that far. 11 and 12 were questions I couldnt answer, so I stopped. When you dont have a clue about what they are asking, making a choice is rediculous. There should have been other options to allow you to not make a choice and still move on. Or not making a choice at all and still move on. It wasnt a very well designed questionaire, thats for sure.
The zoom can be changed by pressing shift at the same time, which slows down the zoom into smaller chunks. Rotating the map I have found annoying, but if you flip the map right over, it then rotates the right way. The whole rotation thing is changeable so you can look at the map from any direction at all, and have things rotate however you want.
You need your own culture reaching to that planet, probably a fe capital ships pushing enemy culture away from the planet, and you may need to kill the next couple of planets beyond it to stop them sending out culture. I'd suggest moving on to the next one thats sending culture its way. Leave enough ships behind to fight off a sneak attack, or ships jumptiong behind your strike force, and leave a colony frigate close to the planet, so that when culture drops low enough, it will be aut
The first is a text file. The second is a binary file. Hence TXT and BIN at the start of each. The binary files execute quicker and thats how the game is shipped. However, the game is modded using the text files not the binary files. If you download a mod, you will find it mixes binaries with texts, and the text files are the ones that have been changed, and the binaries are the unchanged originals. As said, if you want to mod the game, then download th
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I didnt know where to put it. Mods feel free to move or delete this if you can pass it on to whoever is appropriate. I recieved the Stardock Questionaire this morning. In question 11, it gives options that I've never heard of and then demands you select one. In question 12, it asks if you use something I've not heard of to select an option, and then demands you select one regardless of the fact I've never heard of it, far less u
You said "(they retreated after a while, although I dun know why." and I was responding to that.
I have found that if your going to have 16 capitals in 1 fleet, your better off with 3 of each and 1 extra of 1. Then each ship type supports the others with their unique abilities. Any large fleet without 3 Dunovs is vulnerable.
The Ai will often retreat when you kill enough capital ships and have the numbers. So when I'm looking to take a planet, but dont really want a slugfest at that point, I'll target the capital ships only until the fleet retreats and leaves me with the planet.
Oh, it depends. :) Personally, I just go for balanced fleets. 50 of each does nicely in the way of offense and self-protection. Then keep building in sync. Thats with 2 of each capital ship, or if you can depending on the game, 3 of each. Always though, I try to have at least 100 strike craft per fleet, rising to 150 if possible. For each way of spamming a ship, there is a counter, so balanced fleets are only really overcome by sheer numbers and better tactics.
I play big games too, and have the same problem with the lists of planets and how productive they are. I think its an oversight. The devs have tested using small maps, and forgotten that its possible to make really large maps, and never bothered to play a game while testing that overruns the display limits of the screen. Talking of which, it probably varies how many can be seen depending on what you have the screen set to. I've never noticed where it overflows, but since I pla
I use it a lot lot lot. I play TEC, so I usually have credits more available than resources, especially when I get Trade Ports going everywhere. So I tend to buy resources when I need them, especially when I'm in a research frenzy, or in a rapid colonisation phase. In games where I have an imbalance of resources, usually producing a lot more metal than crystal, I sell metal and buy crystal. The object is to get things built and researched asap, so waiting around for one resour
Havent you guys seen/heard the baseball sendup called "Whos on first" ? :) What definitely gets a mention in it.
