I would expect "micro" means "micromanagement". I've never known Frogboy/Stardock to use micro to mean "small", the same way they've never used macro to mean "big". 1.6 could end up being a small Stardock micro update - that is, not much has been changed in it (hence it's small) but what has been changed is the micromanaging required for starbases (hence it's a stardock micro update). Or it could be a macro micro update??

But should Stardock try and make the game harder for those of us who can beat the game on Godlike? I think what they do and what all game developers probably aim for is "how do the majority of people who play our game play?" With GalCiv, that means: Galaxy size, number of opponents, AI level etc. Why spend time coding things so the Godlike level is incredibly brilliant when you're impressing 0.25% (say, I honestly don't know the numbers) of your customer base? Okay, that might be the

Hey, the AI on Normal or Gifted kicks my ass, why would I let a human do the same thing? I would play MP at some point: I guess there'd have to be rules - ie planetary wheel for everybody, sensorships all 'round etc ie everyone takes advantage of min-maxing etc. Otherwise, it's a game where the one or two min-maxers streak ahead with their 73 Turn Ships/SensorShip that can see THE WHOLE GALAXY/50,000 weaponized (due to the 0% of hull they use Frogboy mentioned earlier toda

If you haven't heard it, I'd recommend the Weddings Parties Anything version of "Barrett's Privateers", which is on on their "They Were Better Live" album if you can find it/Youtube it. I'm posting this before I hear your Stan Rogers version, so at worst it's 2nd...

DLC will come out when 1.5 is Live, not just Opt-in. I think the Diplomacy improvements are good as far as they go but the number of improvements is a bit Meh. It seems sensible to me to make a huge jump in Diplomacy with the Espionage expansion as they are to me quite closely linked. Using spies to undermine Diplomatic relationships between races etc...

If, as Frogboy says, the planetary wheel was always going to be taken out the back and shot and therefore the AI was never designed to use it to it's best advantage, why not make it a Multiplayer Only function? That way, the people who are designed to use the planetary wheel to it's best advantage (us human folk) can use it if they so desire when going up against other human folk and Singleplayer folk (like me) can if avoid a situation where the human chooses to use it be

My email - which is yahoo.co.nz - downloads to my Outlook no problem. For a good year or two I find myself stuck in the Eternal Log-In Loop From Hell whenever I try to log-in to Yahoo! so tend not to use Yahoo!'s website for email anymore. I've certainly seen a rise in the number of "we detect you have Adblocker. Please turn it off and take our advertisements, which allow this site to operate" websites over the last year. Some websites I frequent have mooted a subscription to

Or, if you're not a doctor, patience. Sorry. But the point remains: Frogboy said 1.5 would be available in December. There's still 25 days to go... (Sound of fingers drumming on keyboard as GalCiv3 player waits for GalCiv3 1.5 patch to come available, drumming becoming faster as time goes by)

The number one thing I would say about 4X, and GalCiv games in particular is that if you like making every move, doing everything yourself in combat than this is not the game or maybe even not the genre for you. You may order that Fleet 4 attacks Enemy Fleet 3, but after that, your shipmen/soldiers are on their own. They will live and die on their wits, not yours. Be grateful you've joined after the planetary wheel was removed. Feel free to search the for

Thanks for the replies. Interesting reading and certainly food for thought. Ziddim, as I take your argument: In GalCiv3, everything you do is coercion and therefore whatever you do, you'll be punished by the implementation of a coercion system that makes your population less happy because you're coercing them. Which you can't avoid so you're constantly being punished whatever choices you make... joeball123, I gave up on realism a long, long ti
A rebate would`ve been nice for wasting £35 quid on the Steam version, but i doubt that will happen...
Yep, no chance. I wouldn't offer you one, either. It's your choice to do the re-download from GOG. Good on you for doing that if you choose to, but you are choosing to. GOG wouldn't give a rebate to a Steam user who bought Game A on GOG and then when it was subsequently released on Steam re

But, Ziddim, if you were living in Austin and didn't like doing tech (50%) and all the jobs in manufacturing and wealth (30% each), you could look on-line/off-line for a job doing what you wanted in, say, Phoenix and move there. In GalCiv games, there is no volontary emigration. It's controlled by the "government": A Hey, you! On to that thar Colony Ship and go colonize that new planet and probably end up doing the same job you were doing here! or B: Hey, you! On to t

Yes, but isn't it almost inevitable in gaming that there will ultimately be One Best Way - ie with "FTL: Faster Than Light", missiles might be cool and everything but ultimately anyone who wanted to do well stuck with Lasers. How can developers create 3 pathways without - in some way - favouring one? (which, as I've posted previously, reflects the way they would play the game) Nerfing is probably the most likely option the developers would take, but making the huge advantage

Also it`s a little meglomaniacal getting upset because your planet hardly shows and when it does it`s not good enough. It`s probably randomised. You seriously didn`t expect YOUR name to come up all the time? be happy to know it is in the ... list.
Well, no. But since there's some people on here upset because frogboy and co won&#

Starting a new thread because the old thread: https://forums.galciv3.com/453553/page/1/#3484190 appears to be closed. Well, I did finally see my star in game last night (I was sandboxing, Immense size map and it took 30-something turns - fair nuff). BUT. One stinking lousy 0 Level Planet. I mean, WTF? Has anyone found their namestar and has it been halfway

Given the ranting and raving this has caused, One can only tremble in fear at the melt-down that's going to occur when Stardock announce that they've dealt with the OP sensorship by allowing it to be shot down by any ship (whichever size, whatever weapons) in any part of the galaxy at any time. Oh, sorry! Was that not public knowledge, Stardock? Oopsie. Sozz. My bad.

I like what you're suggesting. Except I sometimes have a habit of re-starting games where I've picked Random options because I didn't like what Random gave me (ie I really deep down wanted my Setup a certain way and was expecting by picking Random the game would just by chance give me what I wanted)... :)

Playing a game on Insane map, 6 gifted Random Majors, abundant Minors. When you pick the number of Random Majors you want in Game Setup, a number of logos equal to that picked are turned inwards so you can't see them. Does that mean that, for example: You pick 6 Random majors and 6 logos are turned in. The remaining ones that you see are the logos for the Terran, Drengin, Yor. Does that then mean that you will not have the Terran, Drengin and Yor as opponents? Has

Was it ever considered to keep the planetary wheel (for everybody), just make it less grunty? ie Make it totally impossible to, as frogboy mentions, churn out massive hull ships in one turn (which does sound ridiculously overpowered unless you decide a turn is worth a quarter of a year at least - OT but did we ever get an official definition of how long a turn is?) Obviously this is moot pretty much, just wondering. It reads to me like some on here started using the planetary

The idea of retreat, as joeball123 says, would be an absolute PITA unless there was a mechanic by which you could only retreat from a battle situation before you took a certain amount of damage (10%, say). The game makes it so that any enemy that attacks you - and you attacking any enemy - takes out your navigation etc first, so that yep, you can fire your guns and stuff but you can't maneuver to actually shoot too accurately. Agree with No 2, especially. Really

I'm having issues with the Snathi. Boy, they get upset really-really easy. And declare war fairly soon. Too soon to really do anything with it. I'm hoping this will be sorted with 1.5, as that's where diplomacy is going to get a purdy makeover, according to frogboy. I don't mind being threatened by the AI early - ie "we'll undermine you/stop your freighters/harass you/slander your name throughout the galaxy!Look at those disgusting photos of you a

Fair points, but I think there needs to be differentiation between decisions that only affect a colony (building placement, starbase improvement around a particular colony etc) and decisions that affect the entire empire (ship design, fleet formation and so forth). It's the colony level decisions I can't be really bothered with. I've always liked the idea of being able to design templates for planetary construction, then telling the Governor for tha
