That's the power of GalCiv for you! I recently bought the bundle myself after the fact I just couldn't wait any longer, but I used a credit card so I'm already playing it! I haven't yet regretted not buying them!
MrVegetable
I felt the full fury of evil ethics earlier tonight, when i sold it to the Drengin...now that my main plan (to test the Terror Stars which I eventually found to be absent) has fallen through and I've been forced into war, I'm feeling the power of several Dominators, Vengances and Heavy Fighters with Psyonic Beams >_<
I get a similar problem with my starbases. http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/7164/missingstarbasexz9.jpg When I upgrade the starbase though, sometimes it will come back. It is rather strange.
I just installed the Beta today, and experienced this problem too about 10 minutes in. Glad I'm not alone. Lets iron out more bugs!
Why are we complaining? Surely this is a GOOD thing!
I thought DA was meant to be a primarily graphic improvement, what with updated textures that take less space, new unique ship models and sets for each race, etc...I'd rather they tweak the game mechanics more myself, mainly taking the suggestions we get on the forums here, such as the sliders situation.
Farms 'hurt morale' ? if you're at: 5.85/6.00 idn't that ^ the time to build a farm?..... I usually wait until then... Homeworlds start with a 12.00 population cap rather than the usual 6 from colonised worlds (Unless this changed in DA) Higher populations also bring a drain on morale due to overcrowding and (in DL 1.4) it really begins to take effect when the population hits 18.00. I personally find one
There is a similar mission in the Dread Lords Campaign between the Terrans and the Thalans I believe. Pretty much the same process I'd imagine if you did the Terran/Thalan scenario already.
So who has been exterminated/changed as of the end of DA. I don't have DA and probably won't be able to get hold of it until (or if) it gets released in the UK stores, so I'd like to know what's been happening in the campaign after the Terrans left for the Dread Lords realm.
I choose which ethic the align to depending on how the game goes. If it's in the bag and I feel like something different then I'll choose Good. If I need a better economy and faster research I'll go Neutral. And if I'm being beaten to a pulp (or am approaching that stage) then I'll go Evil and use the powerful weaponary to throw back my opponents and turn the tide. Most of the time I'll go Neutral as the extra trade routes can be very helpful to keep you afloat early game if you researc
Usually I notice that it is because they have an agreement with that certain race, whether it be a trade route, and alliance or a treaty. It might also be influenced by the races relation with the other race.
Shouldn't the Serial Number be on one of the discs? It was for me...strange...
I have noticed that in the earlier missions they seem to use Doom Rays, and huge amounts of them. Not that I managed to beat them, so I ended up taking my "Ultimate Strategy" and ran away... In the early game though their Logistics is poor and they cannot make fleets. Presumably, with constant bombardment of large fleets consisting of small or medium hulled ships. Use the best weapons tech you have (Mass Drivers is reasonably good early game in the campaign due to it's good bal
You need to research all the weapons that go on those ships, not just the hulls. All the hulls research unlocks is larger hulls for ships to use, whether it be core designs or your own. Designing your own ships is much more useful, as you can create them to the purpose you need and for the galactic situation at hand.
I guess I just suck at this game then, as I seem to always need morale building in every game I play (DL 1.4). This includes playing with max morale ability and most (if not all as I concentrate on building them) of the morale super projects and trade goods. I honestly don't know what I do that is wrong. If I build a farm I have to build at least 2 morale buildings on that planet...
Where abouts are you in the game when this slowdown happens? If you are quite a way into the game it will slow down anyway because the gameneeds to move every ship on the map and calculate what the AI has done in that turn, and since it moves every ship individually (I think) on a gigantic universe it will take time. If it is at the start of the game and goes on for a minute or so then yeah file a report about it as then you have a problem.
It would be fun to see something like this though: In your starting system you have 5 Class 26 planets. Each with 12 Precursor Mines and 11 Precursor Libraries (or vice versa depending on your playing style) and 2 Approval Bonuses. Each planet has EVERY tile on the planet available for upgrade (for realism purposes I came up with Soil Enhancement for full land tiles like Prairies, Habitat Improvement for Partial land tiles like Swamps, and Terraforming for full liquid tiles lik
Lucky Rangers are very good! Depending on how many you have, keep them near enemy planets to wipe out any extra units they may build. As for econ problems...has the Galactic Privateer been built by anyone? If not, get Master Trade and build it, which means trade routes cannot be destroyed unless the other civ breaks them or is conquered. This will allow you to trade more and get your econ back on the way to stabilisation.
Someone mentioned early on in this thread: "I guess he expects players to play how he envisioned the game to be played." I strongly disagree with this comment. I thought the whole point of the game was that the player chooses the way they play, not how the developers want them to play. I also personally think that instead of eliminating the possibility of using these "exploitive" strategies as some people claim them to be, maybe the AI could be programmed to use those strategie
Each Ethic has its own suited victory too. Good suits Diplomatic Victories, Neutral for Tech Victories, Evil for Conquest Victories and all of them suit Influence Victories. this is the 1st time I have seen this stated so succinctly. Neutral is also the best path if you are going to try the "all research all the time" path to any of the victory types (but build plenty of finance planets). drrider <
Depends really on your playing style. If you like Good because of its defence then go good. Most people will choose Neutral and Evil over Good though because the bonuses are just generally better. Some say that the defence bonuses of Good aren't nearly as good as the offence bonuses of Evil and that the unique buildings of Evil are far better than that of Good. Along with quite a few others, I tend to go Neutral mainly because I like the bonuses (rush buying ships is cheaper I believe,
Hmm maybe that's why I have difficulty keeping up with the AI at the start, yet if I try that I find it very difficult to stay afloat which puts me further behind...how can I prevent that? (I play Normal and Tough difficulties)
Oh please continue this! This is so awesome! It makes me wish I was good enough to get all that research done in such time, as well as having the eco to get all those ships! How do you do it?
I was forced into a tech win in my last game. The huge Galacatic War between many side messed up my eco (I was Korx) and most of my trade disappeared. Had to recovered, researched everything on the tree until discovery spheres was my last tech left. The following war with the Arceans messed things up even more so the only thiong left for me was a TV (Military too weak for conquest, Influence and Diplomacy impossible during a war I couldn't end, and the Terrans were just heading for TV just befo
Ok thanks you very much for your replies
