Saturday morning my pc suddenly shutdown. It went off like the power cord had been pulled. In a fraction of a second, as it was going, I though I saw a pop-up bottom right of the screen. It took me four attempts to get the pc started. A few minutes later it went again. The shutdown was so dramatic I started thinking of hardware issues such as the graphics card failing - especially as a few reboots suggested Windows was running but with a blank screen. This is a map of mudflows from a normal type eruption. Enough to endanger a couple hundred thousand people. A large lateral blast (like St Helens) to the NNW would reach Seattle.
As long as the subduction zones along the pacific and north american plates remains active so will the cascades. Just look at the number of volcanoes along that area and you will see another will blow like St Helens, maybe even bigger. The process of eruption and rebuild is a constant one, albeit over a long period for human recollection.
I guess I'm luckier than most. My connection is a steady 62Mbps with no limits for £27 per month including line rental and evening/weekend calls. I expect some remote locations are difficult to get a good service to. Some of the country areas here can't get better than 1Mbps and some are less than that.

It's the parents. They have a syndrome which makes them believe they are right, everyone else is wrong, and their kids are wonderful and don't need correcting. Here's a good example. I went out for a drive today. Near me is a narrow but open country road. I passed some cyclists - two parents, and two kids, probably about 7-8 years old. I went past slowly, but, this road has a 60mph speed limit. What are parents thinking taking small children cycling on a road like that?</p
