I'm not sure what ship parts or missions are supposed to come with the bonus pack, so I can't help you there, but I can tell you that somehow your "tactical zoom" slider on the "Interface options" in the main menu has been moved all the way over to one side. Slide it back in the other direction and your 3-D ships will appear again.

In some other thread (I don't have time to look it up now) Frogboy made a comment about this bug and said it's not an "AI" bug per se but a "target selection" bug or something along those lines. In any case, he did seem momentarily aware of the problem. I don't know if that means they're going to resolve it any time soon. Has anyone reported the bug to the official bug-report e-mail address?

I think a lot of people play this game with a deficit for the first 50 or more turns. It's definitely a little counter intuitive - the game sets you up with all this cash and you're tempting to spend, spend, spend! But as other posters have said, if you blow your initial funds you'll be bankrupt in no time. Even if you just fill your planets with factories and research centers through normal building you'll be running in the red. Resist the temptation to build a mess of factories

Are you playing each of these games in a day, or are you just posting stuff you've written in the past? How long does a game on a large map take you? I love the commentary on the screen shots - it's like the telestrator on American football. It looks like you've had two good games with superabilities that in the end weren't worth anything. What balance do you use between production worlds/research worlds/economic worlds?

I think you have to set a rally point first, using hotkey "P" or the silver thing that looks like an arrow pointing into a bull's eye that's next to the spy symbol on top left of your "dashboard" (the bottom part of the main screen). Then when you click on the arrow/circle thing in the planet info box you'll get a list of rally points and you can select which one you want to assign the ships being constructed at the planet to. It's very useful. If you've successfully assigned the rally point,

Good write-up. I tried the Krynn back in the beta, when they were supposed to be immune to foreign spies (that would have been a good super-ability!) but the ability wasn't hooked up and did not work. I haven't tried them since. Anyway, about the super-scout: the game has a hard cap on sensor range at 15pcs. I guess this is to keep huge sensor-ships from causing a major performance hit. Plus, when you get to the end of the sensor branch you can build the eyes of the universe wonder which gi

As far as I know, asteroid production is not free. Asteroids are just like factories - you pay 100% for the base production. This is made clear on the "summary" tab of the planetary screen. Initial colony (or civ capital), factories, and asteroid mining bases are all listed separately and the "total industrial" number at the bottom of that window is the sum of all their values. Your base military or social production is your slider percentage times that number. Then you add the bonus produc

The other day I was playing around with some planets to see if the numbers for spending, production, and time to completion matched up. It turns out that the time to completion for planetary improvements is a little screwy, but that's the subject for another post, which I'll put up after I've had time to crunch the numbers some more. In the meantime, I thought it was interesting that the "Spending" number on the planet screen (below "income" and above "maintenance") actually includes the maint

I've noticed the AI sliders moving around too. When I went into the personality page of the standard AI's and moved the CPU usage to max, I noticed that the extra abilities were slid a bit to the right. The AI's were at tough, so I don't think they should have any bonuses. I moved the "extra abilites" sliders back to the center (100%) and hit save. When I came back the same AI, the CPU usage slider was still at max, but the "extra abilities" slider was back over towards the left, at somethin

I was just messing around with building and upgrading improvements and I can say that it's a little bit squirrelly. Often the "build time" "upgrade time" displayed in the box that shows your current project does not match the time next to "current project" listing in the build queue on the bottom right of the planet screen. Also, the total build time for multiple queued projects does not add up clearly. I'll post a more detailed analysis when I get a chance to crunch the numbers a little bett

I wonder if someone over at Stardock shouldn't go through and look at: - The econ and production code (how much research, military production, social production are produced by the various improvement combinations, and how much tax is produced by different population and improvement combinations). In my experience, some of this is a little screwing. - Where the displayed build/upgrade times for ships and improvements are coming from. I'm starting to wonder if, after all the c

The game is already pretty cool, but here's my absolute wish list: - The ability to decide on UP proposals ahead of time. I guess this would require some AI work, but as the AI is already programmed to vote a certain way on the proposals that are presented, this might not be that hard. Sure it'll be open to exploits, but what isn't? How are the UP proposals decided now? Is it totally random, or is it influenced by the state of the game? - More options on the

I realize that the goal was to make something that sounded cool, not write in correct Latin, but just for fun, here's my (woefully inadequate) attempt to rework the Latin into something approaching grammar... The first sentence is fine - "Hac in hora, sine mora, persta atque obdura." The next sentence starts okay but ends badly. Here's how I'd put it, Good: "Cum ruatur caelum, si bellum volunt (vultis? you plural?), parati nos. Parati ad vincendum, ad vindicandum, ad mundum

In a post by Frogboy about the new buildings planned for Dark Avatar, he mentions a "Planetary Revenue Service" improvement that would be equivalent to the power plants and research coordination center. * A new building called the Planetary Revenue Service PRS (one per planet) will increase the number of citizens that are taxed (right now a planet with 12B population only actually taxes 6B of the citizens, The PRS would increase that to ~9B which is a significa

I flew the ship to the location they specified and the game ended. Be careful that you're in the right spot. They mean the "sector" 1,3 and not "square" 1,3. The sector you're in is up on the top of the map, not down with the ship info.

For Starbases: I wish the AIs would build and upgrade influence starbases to counteract mine. For minors: I wish the minors would not keep all of their ships in orbit sometimes (including freighters and constructors). For tech trading: I wish the AI would rate techs (including for research) according to what they want to do, not "how much the tech is worth". Would be a big programming challenge, though.

I've found that it is often important to have a stronger military rating than someone for them to ally with you. Also, I don't have any proof of this, but I think that the game may be purposely set up so that you cannot ally with everyone. Has anyone ever one a "pure" diplomatic victory where they did not have to conquer (or have conquered) or absorb any other races?

Kryo - thanks for the tip. I actually deleted the "Arcean custom ship style" I had made back in the first beta and now the game works fine. In fact, it also seems to have fixed a "changing ship styles when loading saved game" problem that I've been having since the release of DA.

Just downloaded and installed 1.5x this afternoon, got on the computer this evening to play and there's no doing. I went to the campaign and first of all it said I was on the first mission. So I tried loading a saved game. Crashed - a window "Sorry Dark Avatar has to close" came up. So I thought maybe it was a problem with compatibility between pre-patch and post-patch saved games. I tried starting a new sandbox game. Same crash. Pretty annoying, I'm not sure what's going on.<

You definitely are using the "tactical icons" instead of graphics. I know because my computer is so slow that I almost always play the game at that level. Go into your "main menu options" and look for an option called "tactical view zoom level." It's probably jammed all the way to the right (or left, I forget which direction does what) meaning that the game shows icons even when totally zoomed in. Try moving it to the center of the slider and going back to the game. Zoom in - at a certain p

What exactly do you mean? Sometimes the focus will change from one ship to another without my realizing it and I'll click somewhere, thinking I'm directing ship A but in fact I'm changing the destination for ship B without intending to.

The neutral terraforming bonus used to be even better - all the terraformable tiles were automatically updated, even if you hadn't researched the appropriate techs. Also, remember that Neutral doesn't get any special weapon or defense techs.
