Ah yes. Taking out entire armadas with just a few ships in MOO and MOO2 brings a misty gleam to my eye *sigh* Aww, shucks! You've got me going now..*sniff*. Yup, fighting was extremely gratifying in the old days before threedee, but we definitely settled for less. I want it, you want it, even the people that say No wan
FROOKIE
Oops, sorry about all the green!
Just bear in mind - regardless of the feature, any feature that requires more than a few hours of development/testing is not going to be in some update. It's going to be either expansion-only or in a sequel. I am not going to commit to tactical combat or something similar in a sequel but I wouldn't rule it out. I am not against tactical combat, it is
Cool - thanks for he heads up on SEIV. just do what i do - keep em talking, whenever the opportunity arises make a statement (and get flamed). The thing is Tactical combat is one element Frogboy would love to do if they could get a decent level of difficulty - I'm hoping they're still trying. The reason for the lack of interest has probably got to do with fact that the topic is a well trodden field and there seems to be nothing new growing here. La
All hail the the Lords (and Lady) of stardock! Reading the OP has got me psyched! You seem to be covering most of the weaknesses the AI has at present and I'm sure it will all come together. I've played a lot of games on all the iterations of GC2 (Yup, a considerable portion of my spare/sleep time has been taken up by the game, the Forum also takes a chunk) and while I haven't kept logs/screen prints - making it an obsession rather than a pleasurable way of getting away from it all
Veblen, how are you getting your data? I really can't see you doing all this on the simulator gizmo?
SleekDD you'll have to help me here, whatis? a pyrus victory. I think i'm getting what your saying, but it sounds cool and i might have to drop it into a converation somewhere and it would be usefull to know the book def. Well sure, i did add to my ship one particle b
we were assigned to hijack psycho's posts on d-day... Ok, another question then - who assigned you to attack Psychos posts? It needed doing as he was an ass, but the question remains.
When you build starbases, why don't you park a fleet or two on top of it. Also starbases act as a kind of honeytrap for the DL they will go out of their way to destroy these, so build up a military one create a few swarms of tiny fighters and kill em off as they come in range. And If its late in the game and you've got the tech you shouldn't be having a problem, unless you haven't researched sensors and ceated sensor ships?? you should get the 'initiative' back this way.
Its the Arceans / torian axis of expansion, but it also depends a lot on starting location as to which of these two expands the most.
Dude, just change some of your factories into stock exchanges - if you haven't got the tech then get it sharpish, its dirt cheap to research and build this improvement. Also as a temporary stopgap measure - if you increase your research to 60% and you don't have too many research buildings your spending will drop dramatically. Also stop building any form of ship on some of your worlds, you should be able to gain your shortfall just by doing this alone. If you we
Its a bloody swap off isn't it? One game has a good strategic framework, but a shallow tactical element - GC2, and SE5 is the opposite. This brings to mind the new coke advert: Lime in one hand, coke in the other - "Put the lime in the coke...." That said i should be playing SE4 as its out in a coulpe of weeks here in Blighty [England]. And SE5 as soon as its out.
I want one - Waaaaah
Who / What / where is the Hijack crew? I only ask because there are over a 1000 posts and you might save me some time finding out.
That is the problem - and why it is an exploit. It does not work the other way round Magnumaniac is correct, for not researching the Translator tech to prevent anyone messing with your mojo in the early game you are exploiting a loophole in the game design. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgColor=#FFF394 class="mb-Bod
Unfortunately, tactical combat may never make it ito GC2. I've championed the cause once myself, but its the whole exploitation potential that keeps this from becoming a reality. The only real argument that people have against is that it will make the game too easy. You can happily ignore the people who say it will be too hard to code. Personally, I beleive it will add more diversity to the game: The tech list will need to be expanded - ranged weapons, troop kil
yup, its not that difficult. And you don't need alliances to win.
And consider keeping your spend slider on 100% as often as you can. This is really, really important.
Another thing about the system is that while it's perfectly viable strategy to focus almost 100% on weapons and ignoring defenses, doing the opposite, with minor research on weapons and mostly on defenses is clearly inferior. Very true, you could even say usless. But this is obvious because, whats the point of having a really good defence if y
An old trick in Civ II was to build up a huge industrial city, let the squares around it become horribly polluted, but use stacks of engineers to continually "fix" the polluted tiles so it never became a problem, and churn out high-cost military units every turn (compare this to one planet churning out a Dreadnought every single turn). This is
By higher levels you mean above tough? Painfull is more appropriate, because of the bonus allocation Richrf, currently its masochistic. @DarkMatter - I agree with the spirit of what you are saying, but the scenario I wish to avoid is being swamped by a never ending supply of AI ships, It will almost completely kill strategic gamepl
Defences should be expensive - but with the new ruleset the price should drop slightly. Let me explain: But this has to be said first....Defences unreliable?Occasionally you may loose a ship because the rolled dice let you down. Is this unreliable? Nope, its just plain bad luck and it happens sometimes. But without defences you're not going to be tasting any of that massive slice of the survivability pie (Poor stats analogy, sorry). The only time I build defenceless ships i
At least those aliens will be happy...
There. Gal Civ AND Tetris fanfiction all in one. Needs some work, but you might have something there
I don't know why stardock borthered with all that fancy 3d graphics lol. Whats wrong with playing something thats as aesthetically pleasing as it is enjoyable? I plan to upgrade my dinosaur of a pc just so can see everything in all its glory. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddl
