After a while you realise that you can take advantage of the tech trading yourself and cheat the ai in it instead. A good strategy is deciding what tech line(s) you want to specialize in and keeping those techs for yourself while trading all the other techs. This is what good players are doing alredy, now it's time the ai start doing the same. I't should try to keep some techs for itself no matter what, not trading it to humans nor other ai:s. Unless the tech is "compromised" and some

Hundreds of 1/0 ships vs ships with defense sounds like an extreme case scenario. You should play a few more games before you jump conclusions, I won my first game (tough=intelligent difficulty) were the yor controlling much of the galaxy with hordes of crappy ships and me using better ships + military starbases in a "surprise" attack to beat him and thought, hey the ai isn't that hard... But I noticed he had some ships out in the end that could easily beat me... My point is, you som

But this seems like one of the things they really dont like trading to me. I had a torn in my side influence starbase and they wouldn't trade it no matter what. But I came up with another idea, make another race declare war on the guys with the starbase and give them a ship next to it Using other races to do your dirty work is great!

The massdriver line might offer this headstart in firepower, but however, the final mass driver is the crappiest (but cheapest) of the top weapons. The biggest ship loaded with top of the line weapons will have a firepower of 208 using massdrivers, 275 with missiles and 220 with beams. On small hulls however, the balance is different...

The military techtree is far from linear. There's more to it then just shield beats lasers etc R.P.S. in there, makes it much more interesting and shows that a lot of thinking went into designing it.

Better then the official game examples. It would be cool if there was a place people put up a lot of stories like this. It's amazing that you can oftenly end up with very cool galactic stories like this by playing the game.

In most games industry and economy was separated, civilization for example. I didn't realise factories worked the way they do immedietly either. I disagree that you are forced into one mode of play tough. In my first game i took +50% production and concenctrated on having very high industry. It was very succesful and I won vs intelligent. In my newer games I tried doing the economy juggernaught instead and find that it's hard to spend all the money as efficiently.
