Dunno, maybe his site has been "screwed" somehow since the bottom auto-tag for the Full-Guide isn't responding from here either. Give it a week or try sending this guy an eMail or somethin'... since i don't see right now where or who has a more complete guide on DA. There's always the wiki, but that has to be fixed too for the latest data & infos. This kind of stuff is pretty hard to come by, even here on the genuine SD main site for their own game. Which is to say, they should co

Kay, i've tried. I've looked everywhere on this board and read plenty of threads - to no avail. Here's what's happening. Not even in the games yet... just clicking on the new game button and getting to pick options. 1- The galaxy spinner movie slowly tilts as it should BUT stops for a slight 0.005 second or somethin'. Restarts, and does it all over again. 2- Pick your civ screen. There's a ship at the bottom right. Even worst and obvious since the box is b

SMAC was indeed filled with such "gimmicks" to complexify gameplay. It may be good or bad depending on what the player wants... IMHO, the learning curve is boosted accordingly though. It's quite alright, cuz in the long-term, players DID get to have a highly detailed ride in such a Sci-Fi context and even more than what they bargained for in certain areas. I was stuck in that game for weeks trying to realize (or comprehend, if you like) the whole concept before having to take a monthly

In a similar type of subject of what Nasty-Tang gave us last week about high planet classes found during your gameplays, i figured another type of "odd event" could be made public through these forum threads. Call me lucky - but what you see in the snapshot below has actually happened to me in a recent game. Still on such a tiny map setting it boggles my greatest imagination skills that something like this could ever occur -- at Random! Now, pick your best wishes and co

I'll be blunt when i say; Just go download the X-Worlds mod and have at it all you like! The main difference between modding or 'enhancing' the stock races to fit one's needs and the actual real stuff with custom races is that a player can alter the game patterns (which you can't fully realize unless you play often or regularly!) sooooooo much it becomes another experience altogether. That's how i made X-Worlds. That was the basic initial concept and became, the final premise;

I've also been looking for a VALID (meaning genuine SD coders supported and actually working to my satisfaction, btw!) way to edit the appropriate dxpack files - including the above 'Robot' in research result; in this particular case i would very much enjoy to go backwards in time where in GC1, a rather simplistic (BUT, a lot more faster to deploy) half-size popup windows served this function quite well. Babamilo is certainly right when s/he says that true customization of the en

Gosh, this subject is sooooo creepy. What i find really amazing through this whole chit-chatting mess is that a common solution to 'the problem' has yet to exposed in all its glory (sure, DRM was mentioned at first and it has its appeal for *some*). Not that there IS actually one definitive answer to all piracy stuff of games (note the distinction and the limit set herein), but if one must search for it, i'd say s/he should begin by taking a long hard look at the product and its potenti

In all fairness to the flip side of the force, people here seem to be forgetting one important area; consumers kingdom! Yup, we're all either against or for enforced control over corporate products (including C-opyrights, indirect/direct protection from theft, locking up a software into redundant and continual verification of validity, coordinated efforts by ANYBODY to impose systematic measures (read this one as THE Law__S from state and history, would you)... and

It had almost nothing to do about typing a new name (made of valid characters only) in a provided field within gameplay, agreed. I was more after an incode task/function and necessary alteration(s) by SD to the program itself to allow much MORE characters to be entered - and this, even in your case (indirectly). Thus, an expanded Font. - Zyxpsilon.

There is one area where SD could give us (modders and regular game fans) a little more leeway... more diversified Fonts & properly 'devised' Characters recognition. See, i am developping the X-Worlds mod and in it, the surface buildings are entirely based on true X-Com stuff; ex, the Workshop(s) are replacing the group of factories (from basic to the very last). Now, what i'd really like to TYPE as an id for these is a personal taste description rather than follow through the a

Yep, but that WAS the point, ya know. Cervantes wrote and had to think it over. I guess it takes a huge open-mind to fully grasp the whole reasoning behind a story protagonist (from a simple book, btw) versus whomever holds the wires that animate it. - Zyxpsilon.

Analogy, then - Slick fire-red tough neck Ford-Mustang overloaded with gizmos and heavy gear zooms right by the clickety two-pistons mid-80's smally scooter. Power and flash! Speed & Beauty. Morning breeze or Thunderstorms? :) - Zyxpsilon.

The whole controversy stands on one thing alone, IMHO... Value you get and value you can't have if the product you own ISN't genuine and properly purchased (as it should, always for anything). What killed most of my interest in a HUGE amount of softwares (not only games, btw) is the fact that corp would pretend handing over a fair program with limited features in exchange for my 'testing time' until i do feel the formal acquisition of such unlocked version (with everything allowed for a

Again another thing to consider is -- the genuine Tech_trees editor straight from SD staff will certainly be an excellent tool to have and may just be a sort of replica (with much more features or better "GUI"!) of what i'm trying to achieve with GTeChnos. It's evident, that these guys know exactly what they're doing with THEIR code. They surely knew beforehand, techno changes would require a better and more extensive way (say, some external devices or utilities) to fully grasp these new concept

Yeah, Thanks a LOT! I must show a tiny more patience for true final (as you rightfully put it, btw) tech-trees but i can always follow your great advice and continue working at the DA version - a sort of Galactopedia, in fact, but much more visual and context driven. There's a snapshot of last week interface for GTeChnos in the X-Worlds/News&Comments thread if you're curious - i may ugrade that image this week-end since much more stuff has been added to it lately.<b

Yup, and it was one of the first zip (from Maverick, waaaayyyy back 9/06!) i pulled off the library when i started working on the miscellaneous attempts at designing some extra-assets for X-Worlds. Knowing how these 'surface' routines will be changed with TA, i think i may have to forget the whole wishes for just the two extra type of tiles and the fact that some sort of in-code function(s) would need to be added by SD coders in order for any to actually ADD something worth to gameplay.

All good in a sense of pre-determined simulation during gameplay, bad if you're the kind of player who wants it soooo easy that any challenge becomes a matter of defeating all AIs directly with skills & personal tactics rather than random luck. In the two opposite directions, i'd put the JaggedKnife against the all inclusive Booming Economy for something like 50 turns, IIRC. Making it optional at startup is a must which i wouldn't go without for a number of reasons; the plans i

Sooooooo true :) -- in fact, right after i'm done with all of this work on X-Worlds i may even get into ANOTHER new mod that's been creeping up my thoughts since the beginning of my adventure(s) with GC (dating back from well over three years, btw); Compendium of Super-Heroes! You may say, i really do LOVE planet surfaces and how they impact the whole gaming experience of others rather than just plain me only... i believe any serious mod MUST provide as much as possible to people

A random occurance of High PQ planets distributed in colonizable assets is one thing... purposely designing custom systems for custom races with these balancing factors, another. Nasty's comment about the PQ29 - reminded me about the whole process of selecting these numbers for each and every planets of the 36 races you can find in X-Worlds. IF you have actually D/L'd it, you understand what this is all about. - Zyxpsilon.

I'd be curious about this too. Knowing how "expensive" a full-scale war can get once you start sending in the top-notch elements from everywhere, it could be more efficient to forecast the odds of any given ship or even, fleets against potentially stronger enemy targets. I'd say the mathematics of experience are key to good warfare tactics as they are to a certain extent for fair results during combat. I'd sure wouldn't want to loose HUNDREDS of small fighters to a simple B

Well, after all Cyberia IS a starting PQ27 - and i didn't see any problems into giving the Cyberdisc race such a huge edge from the beginning. Spotless too, btw! Which is probably why i made a number of PQ22++ also for a number of key "secondary" giants for any of the other X-Worlds races. I'll admit that Globulae at PQ29 is bit of an exaggeration. So, there - honesty never hurts. PQ--1 are just slicky-gimmy-funny. Call me a true Isolationist with tactical

So, anyone? I can always simply wait until i do purchase my own copy of TA and finally obtain the whole scope behind the multiple tech-trees and their intricate features... which means that the GTeChnos program/utility will also have to be delayed. Mind you, i kept working at the DA version though and thus, the interface may need to receive a complete overall to fit TA's complexity. Bof, it's alright - nobody is in a rush for such a simple thing as what i

True, Filterings capacity do take huge chunks off the editing part for whatever tasks you must perform. Plugins (even if scripted through Python & what else) are what makes a finished product better if only, exactly as intended. Skills vs Talent is a different issue altogether which i won't get into with this post. I also use GIMP at times for some specific 'projects'... mostly for SVG files or when i need extra special kinds of brushes not found (exactly as) anywhere else. <br/
