BS. I have yet to meet ONE college professor who could successfully manage a family of seven on less than $20G a year without relying on government assistance. And yet, I know of many, many families that do just that. Not all teachers teach in a college setting. My parents are both public school teachers and just had to pay $1200 in taxes. They

As long as a teacher is accepting a paycheck to teach a subject, I expect not only a high degree of competence in the subject, I expect a high degree of competence to teach. It is hypocritical of a teacher to accept a paycheck, then say "but I don't get respect, so I shouldn't have to..." I'm sorry, I w

Ok, I lied, I'm not going to bed yet. You may not have been asking me, Lee, but I'm going to answer you. I'm an academic (could you tell?) I will stay in school until I can put Dr. in front of my name, and then I will find a job at a University teaching literature. I could have done anything that makes better money. My father practically begged me to go into Speech Pathology, but that wasn't my calling. I come from a family of educators from my parents to my brother and sis

Yes, when you belittle someone's opinion, you stifle them. Everyone stiffles, and I'm not going to say that all liberals are perfect and they do no harm, but I will not listen idly by as someone says that they do all harm and conservatives are perfect either. (Not saying you or anyone else here is saying that exactly, but if you can exagerate, then so can I) I was just saying that academics can know something of the "real world" though, if y

First you call it liberal trash that we should stop killing the world that sustains us and stop acting like parasites... and then say that liberals stiffle thought? Give me a break. The Christian Coalition would ban many good books that are important to anyone who wants a better understanding of the human condtion. "The greatest study of mankind is man." And I never said that they complain about the government, they just know how it actual

You can't expect teachers to teach until the teaching profession gets a better reputation. If a child is good in math, s/he is not encouraged to teach, but to get a "real" job that pays better. The cliche' "Those who can't do, teach." has become the motto of the education system. Better pay and more respect, from EVERYONE (that means students, parents and other adult-type people) and you'll get better teachers. But hey, that's just my hill-

If a professor has spent their entire professional life in academia, what on earth do they know of the world outside academia? The value of a sunrise. The effects of global warming. How the government really works, and not what you hear on CNN. How to stretch a buck. How to feed a family on very lit

I recently read an article in a newspaper (not on JU) about "Protect your children from liberals in College" and I had to laugh. I have a good way, don't go to college. At least not mine. And please, don't send your children to my class and have them refuse to read Shakespeare because there is sexual imagery or Blake because he says everything is holy, body, soul and mind and that you‘ll never get to Heaven as a Virgin. And stay the heck out of th

I knew my name was too common, it's top 50 in each! First Name is the #26 most common female name. 0.49% of females in the US are named Jessica. Around 624750 US females are named Jessica! Middle Name is the #48 most common female name. 0.364% of females in the US are named Ann. Around 464100 US females are named Ann! At least my nickname is very rare... very few Jai's in the world! Last Name is the #43 most common last name. 0.153% of la

Hmmmm... I'm an English major, so I worry that the reaction could be rather violent, but I may give it a try. I have a paper due next monday, and the Prof. could be convinced to not kill me if I explain the reason I'm putting The End at the end of my paper. However, if he still gets on to me, I'm blaming you.

You know what homework I'm talking about... or at least you had better. Are you stalling? Because I'm not going to forget and I will keep bugging you about it. Or, was this your way of saying, "No, I didn't do it, but it wasn't the games fault"?

Did all this gaming keep you from doing your homework?

Should we have a Bibliophiles support group on here? I could use one, but I don't think I'd go... I enjoy my books waaaaaay too much. I can't wait until I can go to the post office tomorrow becuase I should have two more books coming in from Amazon. My Barnes & Noble came in before I left on break.

This really has nothing to do with your article, so I apologize, but I saw you had a link to Foamy.. and had to say cheers! But, yeah, you're right... things never stay the same...

First, my dream not-gonna-happen job 1. Queen of the New United Scotland 2. Well, seeing as how it isn't its own country anymore, and even if it were, I'm like 23 in line for the throne...(I think most of my family would turn the job down, so I have a chance) 3. I would need to take a LOT of poli-sci classes, and some debate, and "How to behead your enemies 101" 4. Well, I am, but I can't give you detials, or I'd have to kill you..

Wow.. this was a long time ago, and I never answered. Sorry About the house elves. Apparently JK Rowling said something along this: "House elves have magic that wizards don't, and wizards have magic that elves don't" in response to that same question. I'd tell you more, but I have to go right now. maybe later.

Despite my name on here, I'm the Queen of the Elementals on my gaming site. We have so much fun... but some people just want the power... how sad. You're going to have two creative little boys on your hands. I'm glad you let them have an imagination.

We're having an early St. Patrick's day party tonight. Maybe I should look into getting some of those and then putting them in smaller cups.... (I'm even wearing my "Mom, Dad, I'm Gaelic" shirt out in public.)
