I guess I should read the fine print in the research documentation! An unexpected bonus! Hardly ever use the Novaliths after the anti-pirate phase, because all of my AI opponents deploy the anti-bombardment tech in their starbases at their critical planets. But it does have its uses, especially when a pirate base is located someplace where you otherwise can't get at it.

Then in a successive patch, they changed the mechanic to x per y planets...with this mechanic, the player must have at least x number of planets in order to unlock the ability to build an additional y cannons....currently the numbers are 4 and 1 (you need at least 4 planets,
As long as the pacts all had the same effect as now, changing it to use diplomacy points instead of cash would not alter the necessity. It would just give certain players more incentive to go for it. Besides, what's wrong with making a whole tree that's getting ignored useful? It may take a little re-balancing once it got integrated, but what in this game is the exact same as when it was first introduced? <br /
I believe that you will need to activate the game through Steam in order to play it. I had previously purchased, downloaded and played all versions directly through GameStop, but when I purchased Rebellion here are the instructions I got when I hit "play": Download the Steam software from: http://store.steampowered.com/about/ Install the Steam software. Log-in or create a Steam account. Click on t
You will need to provide more details before anyone can help you. Did you buy through Steam or some other source? What error messages are you receiving and when?
The stats are essentially the same when I fire up this saved game vs. a saved game that is still running correctly...one core at 40-60% usage with others showing minimal activity, total memory usage at 3.2MB out of 8. The applications tab shows Rebellion at "not responding" while it is locked up, then goes back to "running" for the 10 seconds when it starts up again, etc. I was hoping that this was just some sort of "error on save" in the game file that I could edit to correct.<
This is a problem that I have only had with one ongoing saved game. I have played other games since then without a repeat. I also checked to see if anyone else had mentioned it, but did not find anything, so I will describe the problem and if anyone has a suggestion or comment please feel free to chime in. In a game of Rebellion, 1 human vs. 9 AI players, the computer has started locking up for 10-20 seconds. Then it comes back for about 10 seconds, then locks up again, th
Rebellion is a stand-alone game, so it includes all previous expansions as part of the package. I purchased it through GameStop but had to activate it through Steam, so it is actually separate from all of my previous game installations, and it works just fine.

I think it's pretty clear the aren't going to change anything about Diplomacy. But even in
I've played onlocked FFA PvP and envoys with pacts establish allies as they penalize going to war as you loose the pacts which is somewhat useful. That said it's painful to setup and establish and imo ruin most of the diplomacy aspect of the PvP game. In other words establishing pacts is not very satisfying. The whole Envoy/Pact system is fairly broken again IMO as evidence by the fact that it is NOT used in
I'm not an MP player but I do it sometimes. I know the mechanics of the game as good as anyone, but I get beat almost every time. You know why? Because those guys have an intuitive sense of timing when, to build X or retreat cap Y given fleet Z that I don't. Against late game bomber swarms, you have to keep your capitalships at the edge of the gravity well if you want any chance of escape, because the bombers will kill your cap in two
Indeed, mercenaries is a much better term for them.
I was just thinking the same thing. I don't mind what they do and the way that they do it in the current game iteration, but pirate is probably not the best name for it. Also, my problem with the AI is that it seems to run away too quickly, not that it refuses to retreat, so I think this might be specific to certain game settings So much so that I

As has been noted above, in multiplayer the way it is currently run by a very small group of very active players, most of the benefits of envoys are discarded and the pace of the game that they force you play through the preconditions on the game that they impose is such that envoys and pacts are not worth the investment in research and, ultimately, fleet capacity. It bears repeating, however, that this is a diminution of the game, not an improvement. The "cage match" mentality,

So the AI can level their titans , wich takes you hours .. he did in like 5 minutes and i was playing 1-1 , so there was no way he could get any experience by battle. This realy ticks me off and it also happens with capital ships also easy game doesnt see
MOO2, Pax Imperia: Eminent Domain, and Imperium Galactica 2 were all excellent 4x games from approximately the same period. All three had excellent soundtracks, too. MOO2 was the most primitive in terms of of its graphics and the turn-based system was a little archaic as well, but it is still challenging to play. The AI has no discernible weaknesses. The other two, unfortunately, each have one "fatal" AI flaw that, once you discover it, pretty much makes it impossi
Sometimes I play Advent just to get my hands on a squadron of Solanus Adjudicators and go blow stuff up. Very satisfying.

Helpful hints from a recent replay thread.
Thanks! Adding a couple of Vicious Aggressor AI players ought to spice the game up a bit.
Just for the record, I completely agree with devinhall here. This is an enjoyable game on a number of levels, and trying to force everyone into one limited type of experience and style of play is just silly. I also prefer to play at "normal" speed, and don't feel like I need to join a 12-step self-help program or go to confession to beg forgiveness for my Sins (pun intended).
Good points. I had also hoped that the higher difficulty settings would make the AI more aggressive, leading to more interesting play in the late game, but the Vicious player has been strangely passive, or at least entirely indirect. His income is now less than half of mine, but he has accumulated over five million quatloos in his treasury along with a million each of crystal and metal, yet I haven't seen or heard from his fleet in ages. Interestingly, there is o
