Same goes for the Source engine that - until now - had been dx only ;)

Frogboy: Could you explain that last sentence? Maybe it's just the time or that English isn't my native language but I totally don't get what you are trying to say ;) Vocal groups as in customers? When did they ever ask for mini expansion packs? And which "others" might like it?
If a game's copy protection has the effect of making my ownership temporary, ie limited installs/activations and the like, then it is effectively a rental, not a purchase. In that case, I will pay exactly what I would pay to rent a game, and nothing more.
There is the truth. +1 karma for that ;)
MegaVolt, this is hardly the same MP3-limit issue. You can listen to a song 5 years from purchase, as it really never gets old, but you'll hardly play a game (espe
See the attached link. The Source engine will probably be ported on Linux, which means that there will most likely be a Linux version of Steam. I have boycotted Steam because of the DRM it implements for now but if it is ever released for Linux I sure will buy Valve products. This will make Valve and Steam very popular in the "nerd" scene. I hope StarDock will go a similar route and open up to multiple PC platforms instead of caging itself in by only developing games for windows. Y
You didn't seem to read or notice the rest of my post. Like I said, the game will be eventually cracked, so this entire limit will be rendered sterile in a time period of 2 years. It is basically just to limit you from installing a fresh game on too many computers at once, that's all.
If the CP system basically forces me to crack my legally purchased product to be able to play it, then I will certainly not purchase it in the first place and start with the cracking right a
6. Effective! At the end of the day, if people are still stealing the software, then what was the point?
7. Not existent. Because not a single CP has been able to fulfill requirement 6. Ever.
With all due respect, once you buy a single copy of the game, under any circumstances, you should NOT be allowed to install it on more than one or two computers.
I disagree! If I buy the damn thing it is my decision alone what I do with it. Nobody can tell me different. If anybody tries, I'll for sure not buy their game. See how the DRM with mp3 (not playing on every device) worked. Same goes for games: I buy stuff, that means I own stuff. I own stuff, that means I ca
Phazon88: Thanks for that link. Very nice to read. I think we have to thank StarDock for that. Before GC2 / Sins, people were complaining but didn't have a real argument against DRM. Now customers have seen first hand that there are good products without DRM and their demands did rise. Now customers start asking with confidence for a non-intrusive product. I really enjoy seeing that.
LRM kill Guardians. Light frigates or heavy cruisers then kill carriers. gg.
Quoting from slashdot: "- Announce heavy-handed DRM - "Listen" to backlash from fans - Announce less heavy-handed DRM - Pat yourself on the back when the fans lavish praise on you, knowing you still got your foot in the door anyway Sudden outbreak of common sense, my foot!" The DRM still sucks. It is still way more intrusive then necessary. It is still using SecuROM crap. It's not totally insane as first planned, it is "only" very bad. Yea right, go buy the
+- keys maybe?
MegaVolt: if the tech support agents look like that, who cares?
Valid point. However, it is telefon tech support and not video tech support so we will never know ;)
So how does the Marza lvl6 really work? Target 16 ships and deal 150 damage to each? What if there are less then 16 ships in the AoE? Or is it just 150 to any ship in the AoE, no matter how many? Does it work at all? I clicked it and watched an enemy ship, execting the shields to drop and nothing happened (but I only watched one of many in the AoE).
I also don't like the activation StarDock uses. But at least that one is for patches only. Patches the game works perfectly well without and that are a free bonus for customers. Nobody is required to download them if he doesn't want to. So while not being a big fan of this form of activation I can live with it. It's quite different with the EA activation which is a lot more restrictive.
Flak helps. Or, if he didn't have flak, even fighters.
Another point in the console vs PC discussion: Consoles come without stupid DRM measures that break the system. You put in the game and it works. On PC you have to worry that the DRM will make your PC less functional. About the online-activation: A while ago people were absolutely shocked when Half Life 2 introduced it. There was an outrage that people have to get online to play a single player game. Now a company announces totally over the top insane copy protectio
I know Dark Messiah is on Steam. But I don't like Steam for two reasons: 1. DRM policy. I could maybe forgive that but ... 2. Restriction of german customers. We have retarded laws in geramny that restrict computer games for under-aged and Steam censores based on IP address. So even being >18 years old I have no way to play the uncensored game on Steam because Valve is just as retarded as our politicians that made those stupid laws (which only apply to <18 so there _should_ be a way
StarDock customers: Buy your game legally and have tons free patches and great support and laugh about pirates that have to deal with all kinds of issues to get their versions to work. EA customers: Buy your game legally and deal with all kinds of issues to get your version to work while being laughed at by pirates since their crack disables all the retarded DRM and lets them play just fine in all situations. Or in other words (I think Brad said that): If pirates provide a bett
Each trade ships generates income, same for refinery ships. But I don't know the base value.
A research victory would be great. But not simply one big tech step at the end of the tree. There could be an infinite line of tech, starting with one quite expensive. In the diplomacy screen one could see the current level of research anyone has put into it. If somebody ever is at least 3 steps ahead of everybody else, he wins the game. That way it isn't a hard ending of the game when somebody makes the big research but you have to work for it and out-research the opponents. Th
Thumbs up from me. Great idea!
How about some older games? Like the Alien vs Predator series or the Runaway adventures ... Having some nice older games available online would be nice. The older Eldar Scrolls games (esp. Morrowind + addons) would also be interesting. Oh and I forgot Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. I'm looking for that one for quite a while now and it's really hard to find ;) About The Witcher: I thought it is already on Stream ... but I was told even when installing via Steam it uses that ri
Are you using 5.1 sound? I had a similar bug. If the sound setting was set to 5.1 in the windows sound system I didn't have all sounds (background music was working but no voices). Setting it to stereo (I found out by accident when playing with headphones) fixed it.
Not related to the story but to how the campaign will play out: I'd love to see expanding battlefields like in Supreme Commander. First you control 2 planets (tutorial). Then the area expands, phase lanes pop in, you can start a small fight (8 planets total). Then new phase lanes, a whole solar system. Then as the campaign continues more and more stars get added until finally you have to take out the enemies well defended key star system. That would be awesome.
StarDock announced that Impulse will be a great digital distribution platform by the end of the year and that many games will be downloadable from it. I'd instantly buy The Witcher for example. The only reason I didn't get it yet is the really sucky DRM it uses. I won't install crap like that on my drive. If it is ever available DRM-free on Impulse I'd buy it right away. Another great game would be Supreme Commander (which might even be realistic, right?). If StarDock ever got Blizzard
