Odd Performance with apps

Hi guys, I wonder if you could help on this one. I am having a problem, with Windows Blinds 5 in from the trial version of which is on the website. Mt system spec: AMD64 3200 (1024 cache) 1GB RAM dual 200GIG SATA & ATI X800 PRO 16 pipe. WIN XP PRO SP2 – very carefully taken care of. With various spyware programs and I often run disk keeper 10. I have having major slow down on web browsers IE Firefox and Opera both latest versions as of last night. When I am on general windows boxes IE MY Computer / control panel basically anything without a web browser it is fine, as soon as I put a web page up it really starts to drag slowly – for closing and changing to different tabs on the web page. I was playing about last night, turning of a few other apps I had running. Avedesk 1.3 & Object Dock free version. As soon as I kill those apps. It’s like magic WB5 acts fine with web browsers with no slow down at all. Start AVEDESK or OBJECT DOCK and it slows the web browsers right down. Download speeds are not effected in anyway I get 800-900 KBPS still. I hope I have put enough information on to explain my problem correctly. STATUS : WB+ SRV+ HLP+ UI+ TRAY+ WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC. Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins. You have one monitor in total. (Plug and Play Monitor) 1 is attached to RADEON X800 Series Wblind.dll 2005/11/28 12:01:54 Wbsrv.dll 2005/11/28 11:50:22 Wbconfig.exe 2005/11/28 15:45:06 Wbload.exe 2005/11/25 19:30:58 Wbhelp.dll 2004/09/18 15:37:00 Wbui.dll 2005/11/26 18:09:46 Tray.dll 2005/11/02 13:28:26 Regards Thomas

As soon as I kill those apps

Both or just one and it runs fine?

As soon as I start either, Avedesk or Objectdock. it slows anything web browser based right down. as soon as both of them are closed all windows are back to normall.

Save the current themes for both Avedesk and ObjectDock. Leave Avedesk off and run Objectdock. Drag all the docklets off the dock (it will delete them). See if your system runs as it should now. If it does, then do the same thing with Avedesk by deleting some of the desklets one at a time to see if you get the same results. In either case, you're going to have to play with each to see which docklets/desklets you can use without taking a performance hit.

Sounds like similar issue like in this thread: https://www.wincustomize.com/Forums.aspx?ForumID=176&AID=96064

I seem to be related to RADEON cards and layered windows. Or at least I get performance lag when I start adding docks and widgets. I get the biggest performance lag out of docks though. My symptoms are that Firefox and Thunderbird slows down. All application minimizing lags. On my laptop with a nVidia card with a similar software setup but much less powerful hardware is much more responsive. From that thread I linked to it appear that someone finds that conencting a second monitor somehow gets rid of the lag.
For my own sake I'm waiting for support from ATI because I keep getting an error saying "Zero Display Service Error" at the end of my driver installation. So I'm not entirely sure my drivers are correctly installed.

It is a bit crazy. Anybody else having problems?

Ok. did some testing. Even with Objectdock running with no icons at all on it it still does the same. It is no faster at all with a blank Dock to a dock with 15 PNG's on it.
Any idea's? Looks like am not going to buy WB5

I'm not too sure it's a software problem. It could very well be a driver problem. As I said, on my laptop system with nVidia it works fine.
And it doesn't seem to affect WB. I notice it when I run OD, or DX. And from the post you made it seem you experienced the same. I did a test with my other user account on this machine that runs only minimal tasks. No WB running. When I start OD or DX I get the same lag.

I have the same problem. I use OD, WB5 and  CursorXP. My system (Amd64 3000+, ati radeon 9800pro, 1Gb ram, WinXP32) is really slowing down when i use OD. Especially when you want to close down or minimize a fully maximized window like a browser. When i turn off OD the problem is solved. Strange thing is that i don't have this problem when i use WinXP64, i only have this when i use WinXP32. I also tried several other driver versions, but with no luck.
