strange problem

fired up my pc today and suddenly found 3 extra '?' icons appearing mysteriously to the right of my bar. i never put them there and they were not there when i shut down my pc last night. however i did notice yesterday that when i drag any item to my recycle bin which sits to the extreme right of the icon bar, the bar actual gets longer. those 3 '?' are now sitting where the empty space was. the worse part is i can't even drag them off the bar to get rid of them! this is very distressing! i wish i could post a screen shot of what i mean but i don't see such an option in his forum.

ok i have solved a part of the puzzle. i had the 'lock dragging' option checked and that was preventing me from getting rid of the '?'s. however i can still see the empty space at the end of the icon bar. how do i get rid of it? it looks ugly.

I assume you are referring to ObjectDock.

The empty space is probably caused by either an invisible entry (due to dragging files onto the dock recycle bin), or due to a seperator which is not showing and uses the same spacing as a dock entry. Note - at this time, ObjectDock does not support drag-n-drop of files to the recycle bin without also creating a dock entry. Perhaps this will change in future builds.

In the case of an invisible entry, just click on the spot and drag off the dock - if you get a "poof" then that was the issue.

In the case of a seperator which is not showing, you can right-click on it (this may take a bit to find the correct location) - until you see a "remove this seperator" option in the context (right-click) menu.

Note - you can also remove a dock entry by right-clicking on it and selecting "Remove Entry" from the context menu, which allows you to remove the entry without deselecting "Lock Dragging".

thanks for the tip about just clicking and dragging off the empty slot but i still think its stupid that i will get this problem when i drag something to the recycle bin. hope they fix it in the next version.
