Unbalenced Start Techs

The Yor, Thalens, and Iconians have too many starting techs.

For some reason, the Yor, the Thalens, and the Iconians have more techs than they should. If you try to make a costom race with the same techs as the Yor, you get Ion Drive and predessesor techs. Then you run out of tech points. the Yor apparently, do not. This seems to be a major unbalencing of the start. Can someone either explain or fix this?

It's an easy fix.
First, go to your Galciv2 folder, then the data subfolder.
Second, open the file "RaceConfig.xml" in a text editor.
Third, look for entries enclosed in [tech] tags (replace [ with <).
Fourth, delete any unwanted techs for each race.
Fifth, save the file.

Keep in mind, this will NOT change the starting conditions for a metaverse game, as the common races have a protected fileset for the MV.

Hmm... the Yor ARE kind of mechanic, so they have an advance of it, and if you create another, not cyborg-style race, it will have less tech. I think this is fair .

Those races get fewer ability points.

However, under the current setup, there are races with abilities spanning beyond 10 points, as well as tech above 200 points.

For example, the thalians have a HUGE techlist (12 techs) plus
+20 pop growth(2 pts)
+20 social production(2 pts)
+20 military production(2 pts)
+40 loyalty(+20 is 2 pts)
+6 logistics(cannot pick)
+10 miniaturization(cannot pick)

The torians are also overpowered in both areas

All the races I've seen allow for 10 ability points worth of choices for customization regardless of tech level

Then again, maybe you have a different version, Mighty Frog.

With the A.I trading all the tech so easy, everybody gets them after a few turns anyway.

But my custom race, the Umbreal Sentience, IS a mechanical race! The Sentience was formed by a space probe that had a learning AI.

Hmm, there is a problem then:
No easy trade for tech early in game.
New (young) races and pre-created races concept rethinking.
Maybe a race-age option at race-creation ,like newborn (zero points for it), young (10 or so), and so on with positive and negative effects.

Why are you saying that?

What would be some of the negetive effects?
