WB5 is FINAL or NOT?

I'm a little confused Stardock Central shows a WB5 version as follow : WindowBlinds 5 [beta], installed 5.00[b].006, available 5.00[b].009

So (as an ObjectDesktop registered user) which version are we OD users running? Is it the FINAL WB5 or is it still a BETA?

WB5, as with all prior vers of WB will be an on-going development...there are 'release' vers...and then there are betas, as with any other program which is constantly being improved/updated...

5.00(b).009 shows as a released version for me. 5.00(b).006 was the first release and .009 is just some updates and fixes.

I get cranky when a new build does not show up at least once a week. Does that make me a bad person or just an addict?
As far as I know, the 'b' means beta.

I'm hoping they will get to a release (not beta) version soon. The beta seems a bit buggy for me to want to test.

WB5 was released on Novemeber 9, 2005. There will always be improvements. And it's not in the least "buggy".

... not in the least "buggy".

Unfortunately, some people are having problems with it as well as SKS.
Although the issue is getting a bit clouded with the hacked version problems taking center stage, there are reports of scrollbars disappearing at random, as well as other parts not painting properly at times. These reports are coming from trusted users with legit versions.
I have no doubt that the developers are working to resolve these issues and look forward to when they do so.

I have not seen any reports of scrollbars disappearing at random.

WB5 was released on Novemeber 9, 2005.

That was a beta, not a 'release' version. The release was Dec. 5, ver 5.00.001 in SDC.

If you don't want the betas, just de-select the SDC checkbox for Show pre-release versions. Then you won't even see them...
i've unchecked "Show Pre-release" and i still see 2 apps as BETA!!! -
DesktopX [Beta](3.19[b].002
&
WindowBlinds 5 [Beta] (5.00[b].009)

why does SDC not shows the release version instead of the beta!

So please tell me (ppl from Stardock) what am i running?
a. The release version WB5
b. or still the beta?

When i hoover with the mouse over the WB trayicon it shows up the following : WindowBlinds 5 (5.00 (build 54 x86))
Just checked my version,..it says : 5.00 built 51x86,.. and I'm an OD user too.
(that is the latest one I see, and I have "show pre-release versions" checked).

That is the issue I am talking about. Real issues from legit users are being overlooked or overwhelmed by the hacked version problem.

Neil, there are legit users with legit copies having legit problems and, while the symptoms are somewhat similar to the hacked version problem, I would assume the cause is different.

Here is a quote from NT on his issue which scorpio-logic has reported as well.

Also, Windowblinds will randomly switch to classic scrollbars, progress bars and some other things. It will randomly happen while I work on a skin. If I apply Xp default skin, unload windowblinds, restart windowblinds, it normally fixes the problem and my scrollbars return. When they go bad, they cannot be seen in the preview window of Windowblinds config. It is all random. Sometimes I can apply the Aura skin and the scrollbars will work fine for that skin, but not others I have made. This is not a sure thing though. Sometimes the Aura scrollbars switch to classic as well.

I realize the solution to this issue may take some time to resolve. The objective is to make sure you and any other developers of WB and SKS know a problem exists. From your response I quoted above, I'm guessing you weren't aware of these problems.

As far as WB being an official release instead of a beta, I wasn't aware of it. I had hoped the 'release' version wouldn't have produced the reported issues I've seen.

Pict,

I suspect that what you are running into has to do with layered windows on Windows XP.  Does this happen right after moving a window by chance? If so, it's a video driver issue.

NT or scorpio-logic would really have to answer that question.

As I noted before, I have held off on installing the beta due to the number of issues being reported after the initial release. In the past I haven't hesitated to install the betas, but due to an unfortunate issue with a beta of a different program, I had to recently do a complete reformat. It's not relevant to this issue, other than it has made me a bit hesitant to install the WB beta.

My plan was to wait for the 'release' rather than a beta, figuring it would be 'safer'. I reasoned that by that time any bugs would be eventually worked out.

I was concerned, as this thread developed, that Neil wasn't aware of ongoing issues being experienced by legit users and installs with what apparently is the release version. After all, if he doesn't know about the problems, he can't fix it.

SDC is showing what Beta's YOU have installed. If you uninstall the Beta version you have the only one that will be shown will be the 5.00.001 "Release" version. I believe DX is 3.10.042 "Release"

I am still running WB 5.00.001 without any problems that I've noticed.

Having read that thread, I believe its not a WB issue causing missing scrollbars etc.

It sounds like the machines have hit a system resource limit and thats why WB is unable to load up some bitmaps.  As it seems to happen while editing a skin, I would suggest its a leak in SkinStudio.

These boards are great for community support and it's great that the developers hang out and assist where they can but wouldn't a case at https://www.stardock.helpserve.com/ eliminate the question of hacked/cracked issues? I would think that it would also prevent items from "getting lost" in the clutter of posts.

I'm all for community support, but I am more a fan of good tracking, prioritizing, and better product releases.

Thanks, Neil.
Again, the point was to make sure you are aware of the problems users are having.

Zubaz, I agree. The site you linked to looks like an excellent resource for good tracking, prioritizing, and better product releases.
It was Neil's statement "I have not seen any reports of scrollbars disappearing at random." that led me to believe this issue had not been reported. And since he was active on this thread, it seemed a very good place to point the problem out to him.
Now that Neil is aware of it, life will be back to usual in no time, NT (obscure thread reference)!

Things are looking up after rolling back to Nvidias 77.77 drivers. Thanks Pic for helping out. Thanks for taking notice Neil.

See the other thread for details. https://www.wincustomize.com/Forums.aspx?ForumID=284&AID=95820#752813

I told you progress was being made (boy was that fast). This from SkinStudio developer:
Thu, December 29, 2005 02:08 AM "I can confirm the problem with the slow opening which indeed is a bug that was introduced in the last build".

And more good news!
"I hope we can have a new SKS build up right after the New Year."

And thanks to yrag, NT changed drivers and has had fairly good success so far!

Now isn't this how it is supposed to work on the Stardock Support board?

DAMN, does anyone understand what i'm complaining about SDC?
let me try to recap this once more:

OB in SDC should show any available version from Stardock (incl. beta, if the option has been checked)

But i can, among others, spot DesktopX BETA, WB5 BETA (also WB4 RELEASE) but no RELEASE OF THEM!

So is there something wrong with SDC? should it not also show up the release versions.

PS: Please notice that i'm not complaining about WB5 it self!!! i'm talking about a version issue shown in SDC!!!
