Radeon 9200SE

Not supported?

I have the aforementioned card, and I would THINK that it should support the per pixel alpha. Well, lemme re-phrase that. it DID support it at one time. I followed Kols'advice and re-installed the OLD original driver for the card and it worked! But When I installed one of the WB5 updates all of a sudden it stopped working, and no I didn't archive my installs so too late now. I was just wondering WHY would an OLD driver support per pixel, and not the latest drivers? Anyone?

Since no one has posted, here is a thought:

The ATI installers are set to optimize the drivers in relation to the hardware (video card) automatically, and may see a limitation in the older card - which results in the disabling of the alpha-blending features that would be enabled on a newer card.

An older driver would be designed for the current (at that time) technology, and therefore - if the optimization theory above is correct - the installer would not necessarily see a limitation in the older card, and would enable the alpha-blending features.

Again, this is just supposition based on a general understanding - and not a professional (or researched) basis of knowledge.

Now if I could just figure out "where" in the ATI utility I can re-enable the per pixel blending.

Have you tried uninstalling the current ATI software > reboot > reinstall the old drivers?

Saphire Radeon 9200SE Atlantis 128MB (whew that's a long name) - version 6.14.10.6476 (8/25/2004) works fine here with per pixel.

I'm a firm believer in not upgrading drivers unless there's a feature I need or something is broken.

Good luck

Does anyone know if the problem is fixed in the latest version of the driver (5.13 released yesterday)?

I had a 9200se (Diamond Radeon) and it worked, albeit only without the Catalyst Control Panel. Each manufacturer does their own little tweaking to get what they want to sell. Some makers work with per-pixel, some ignore per-pixel and some just don't work...Have you tried checking the option in "System Information-Never use Per Pixelborders on a skin" to see if that will work? You'll sacrifice the transparency, but you could troubleshoot from there.

Sorry didn't see this post till today these are the latest drivers for the 9200 you'll need to do a google search for the best link (lost the one I had) wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-082-041130a-019577c just install the drivers not the control panel(custom install) will get you per pixel back

ok so i did what ya said, I removed the Catalyst control center and now I get a transparent taskbar, just not window borders....this is makin me nuts! LOL For example, I have a transparent start menu using Dogmax4 but not the window borders. Go figure.

Taskbar isn't per-pixel. heh.

Only window borders require per-pixel alpha.

What people've been doing is installing their original drivers back onto their system to get per-pixel back.
