New variables in today's build:

#1 This build uses the Mles Sound System.

#2 This build has Performance Optimizations turned on for the first time.

#3 Preferences are stored in the in the local user area.

Odds are, it has to do with one of those 3 things.

The computer at the office that has this problem is a laptop. No other machine has run into it other than the one laptop there.  So if we're going to solve it quickly, we need to know a lot more about people's hardware.

I am in the process of putting together a build that uses the same optimizations as before so that we can determine whether compiler optimizations are the cause.

So far, that's 3 machines with Geforce cards. Not sure if that's a pattern or not.

Okay, to see if it has to do with compiler optimization try this:

1) Download this file: https://www.galciv2.com/beta/builds/galciv2-normal.zip

2) Unzip the two files inside of it to your GalCiv directory to replace galciv2.exe and lib3d.dll

3) Load it up.  Did it fix the problem? If so, then rats, it's compiler optimizations. If no, we'll have to think of something else.

That's another vote for nVidia.

There is one other change that shouldn't cause a problem..but.. we updated the Bink library with this build.

Okay, next try:

1) Download this file: https://www.galciv2.com/beta/builds/bink.zip

2) Unzip it into your GalCiv2 directory, it should replace the binkw.dll.

3) Does this solve the problem?

I did get an error message about some library being missing when I first updated through Stardock...but then did an uninstall and full reinstall...never got that message again...but it still didn't run.
