My Start Menu and Windows Explorer can't be skinned - help please

Hello,

Does anyone had a problem on skinning their Start Menu and Windows Explorer? Whenever I try to apply a skin using WindowBlinds, it will skin everything except for Start Menu and Windows Explorer. And also I noticed that the XP style is automatically being switched to Windows Classic style everytime I apply a skin. Then I have to switch it to XP style and apply a skin again, same thing happens.

I think this is with regards to the explorer.exe file located inside C:\Windows folder. It seems that it is not allowing anyone to change its contents. I also tried setting the C:\Windows folder permission to full access, but there were some files that are not able to. I also checked the theme service and it is already started. I also made sure that use of Visual Styles is checked.

Can anyone help me?

I have WindowBlinds version 4.2

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Mark

Please upgrade to WB 4.5 or later.

It sounds like you have SP2 on your PC with a machine with supports DEP which is preventing WB from skinning explorer.  We resolved this in later versions.

Hello Neil,

Thanks for replying.Do you know where I can get the upgrade for WB 4.5? I'm trying to download from google, but it gives me a WB public installer for 4.6. I have a licensed version of 4.2.

Do you by chance have the installer for 4.5 or 4.6? Can you email it to me at chawma@yahoo.com?

Thanks in advance Neil! I really appreciate your help.

Regards,

Mark

Not sure if you can upgrade to 4.6 for free. I bought mine in the 4.6 version, and now run 5.

If you purchased WB 4.2 standalone then you will be entitled to a free upgrade to 4.6.

Simply visit https://www.stardock.com/support.asp enter the e-mail address you used when ordering and it will e-mail new serials & links to that address for you.

Nobody here will e-mail the installers as they should only ever be downloaded by the customer direct from Stardock.
