Large jagged icons in Quick Launch bar

Hi,

Slight problem with WB5 in that my quick launch icons have grown and now appear jagged.  The icon size is selected as small when I select View under the Quick Launch menu.  Any ideas?

The theme I'm using is VistaXP by Kol (Glass Beta 2)

I'm having very similar issues with the icons. Not only on the quick launch bar, but also in the task tray and the start menu. Icons are little bigger than usual and appear jagged.

I've seen it the first time after I cloned my windows partition to a new hard drive and booted from the new drive. Running from old HD icons are fine. Unfortunately even reinstalling WB5 doesn't fix it.

Hope someone from Stardock can shed some light onto this.

I have the same problem. But if I log off, and then log back on, this i fixed. It seems like there is something that is not loaded correctly first time windows starts up...

Ok heres the fix that worked for me! I had the same problem (taskbar and quick launch icons big and jagged looking). Unload windowblinds. Go to the display props and apply the regular windows xp skin. See if your icons go back to normal.. Mine did. Reboot the computer, After your back on your desktop you should be looking at windows skinned with the defalt blue crappy xp skin and your icons in the tasktray and quicklaunch should be back to the regular look. open windowblinds and apply a skin. The skin should apply and your icons will stay the way they are supposed to...Worked for me..Hope it helps.

OK, the above fix works. But it's "symptom extermination" only.
I am interrested in how to prevent this from happening.
It's a horrible thing to troubleshoot as the problem is intermittend: the icons are not always big at startup.
Any Stardock supporters who can say something technical about this one?

Something that struck me on the screenshot you supplied, LeeUK, was that you got the line of the taskbar running through your Start button.
This is something that I got too (with VistaXP).
Perhaps this problem is related?

Come on SD techies! Any hints?

Maybe disabling the 'Skin the quicklaunch taskbar buttons' under Basic Settings>Enchance Desktop elements might help?

I had this same problem and i disabled that option. Seems to work fine till now.

Edit:
Nah doesnt work. Same problem. Come on guys...any solution!?

I am also having the same issues! I loaded a skin for the first time since installing OD and it reduced the icons to the right size and they looked really sharp. When I restarted they have grown and become more fuzzy again. It seems only to happen on those machines with a high native resolution.

There seems to be quite a few people with this problem. Would be nice to have an answer from someone in the know......

The size of the QL icons seems to be determined by the caption (Titlebar) height of the skin being applied - if it is anything other than the Windows standard (?26 I think) I've found that the icons will be distorted.

There is a User Override setting in WBConfig (User Overrides/Advanced settings box) that lets you decide how Taskbar height is managed - might try changing that & see what effect it has.

Thanks for your suggestion Daiwa, but I tried just about everything (including your suggestion) and none of the settings seem to change how the icons are sized (large, small, and let skin decide). Any other suggestions??

I am having the same problem as everyone else in here. And honeslty, its driving me nuts. it would be nice if someone from the startdock staff replied to this problem.

Those of you having this problem might be wise to submit a formal support request to Stardock including all your system specs (especially the info from the System Information page of WB Config). SD staff definitely lurk about here, but there's no guarantee of a response. In the meantime, you might try messing around with the top & bottom Content Margins of the QL buttons & Taskbar buttons & see what effect that has.

You're stealing my best lines Daiwa.

This problem is caused by the quick launch bar specifying an icon size that is not in the icon file for that program. This problem could be solved two ways - 1. fire up the skin editor and change the size of the bar and then resave the skin or 2. Fire up Icon Developer and edit the icon file for each icon show in your quick launch bar. Add a few new sizes (first make sure the file has a 16x16 icon as that is the size the quick launch bar uses) possibly try 17x17, 18x18, 19x19, or 20x20. Judging from the size of your icons in the screenshot, one of these icon sizes should work.

Bowgy, It would be nice if the original poster was still hanging around waiting for a response . . but the likelyhood is low.  maybe someone ing the future will benefit.

I hope someone will benefit. I just dealt with a problem on my system where a program had changed my icon size from 128 to 130. I didn't do this conciously so I was scratching my head as to why my icons suddenly had a few slight jaggies. Someone asked me what size my icons were which made me check the registry and lo and behold I found it was set at 130. I changed it back to 128 and the problem was gone. For this problem, since it only affects a few icons and most don't want to become skin editors, just adding a few slightly larger or smaller icons to the respective icon files should help. Should
