Offline files overlay icon

I have been struggling to find a way to change the overlay icon that WinXP uses for offline files (files on a server or other location that are marked "make available offline").

WinXP's default overlay is an ugly white box with two blue arrows that appears on the bottom right of the icon of every file that is available offline.

Overlays for shortcuts and shared files are easily changeable through various methods, but I can find nothing similar for the offline file overlay.

Any ideas folks?

These overlays are usually contained within Windows system DLLs. Thus to alter them you'd have to hack your DLL(s) with the risk of disabling your system.

There are plenty of 'resource editors' available that allow you to examine and/or change the bitmaps & icons within DLLs so feel free to try it yourself!

A safer alternative is to find/make a complete icon that you can replace the default windows one with.
