Do I need to run a screensaver on an LCD monitor?

To prevent burn in?

Also I just bought a new Dell pc WITH A PENTIUM D 2.8MHZ. What's the difference between a Pentium 4 and a Pentium D?

Any help from you PC experts will be appreciated.

i hardly ever ever use screensavers - and i've never had issues with my computer (i've had my current monitor, Sceptre 19" flat panel lcd, for about a year and have never used screen savers not that i'm saying it's the best thing to do lol just i don't use them.

It is still a Pentium 4....the D represents a series within that particular model. Mine is also a Pentium4(R) 2.8, with a D after it.

LCD/TFT monitors are not susceptible to the 'burn-in' problems the older cathode-ray tube [CRT] monitors were.

So, in answer to the first part of your question ...no, it's not necessary to run a screensaver.

...unless you like them, and want to ~that is

Geez, another name from Intel?
lol

As for the screensaver issue, I read somewhere that most monitors of all types don't have that problem any more.

I just like having a scrensaver. I think it has other uses like 'I am thinking mode' or just a way to show you personality while at work with the other drones.

The D stands for Dual Core processor, and is much closer to having 2 physical processors than Hyperthreading.
Hyper-threading enables multi-threaded software applications to execute two software threads in parallel.

Isn't the "D" the new dual processor chip?

I think so...mine lists as 2 units of 1.4 = 2.8.
