IconPackager Custom Files - Help!

Hi there

I really need help with understanding IconPackager! I have beta version 3.00i[b].002 installed and prior to this I seemed to be able to build an IconPackage that saved and replaced certain custom files like URL, PPS, PPT, POT, DOT, PSD etc. Now with this beta version I can only build and save up to the file icons? I've done all that restore stuff and even went back to the non-beta version but that didn't work either. I notice with IconPackages I download that they have included some of these custom files and they work, so if they can save them in the build why can't I? If your fix is to do with the registry please spell it out very very clearly because I don't understand the registry. I've seen it and removed old items but that's about it.

I'm really enjoying IconPackager and know that if it didn't have these custom file problems, I would enjoy it so much more, life would be easy to apply a package and whala, all files are how you want them to be, right now I spend more time individually changing icons than simply enjoying them.

My other question is this: is there any way I can get back my original windows default package because when I first used IP and didn't really know what I was doing, I managed to corrupt my default where it restores most icons but brings in MIDI and TEXT and LOG files etc that are from other peoples wonderful designs. Even if I individually restore those icons back to default, they don't change, they are now the default.

While I'm here, if anyone out there wants to do a manual for Object Desktop explaining the software options themselves, like what each function actually does and what it means that would be of great help, I really floundered when I first started and while some of it is 'common sense' or 'intuitive', a lot of it isn't, i.e. what is "smart package loading", I have it ticked but I don't know what that means. I didn't even know what a "cache" was, LOL and I'm not too sure I know now either.

Thanks guys, look forward to being educated, LOL.

Unfortunately we do not officially support anything user created. If you do not receive a response here, you might want to try posting in the OS Customization forums.

One of three ways:

Restore Icons in IconPackager

  • Open up IconPackager
  • Click Tools->Rebuild Icon Cache
  • Click Tools->Repair Icon Images
  • Click "Yes" on the messagebox that comes up

or

Change the default icon image (for each icon)

  • Open My Computer
  • Click Tools->Folder Options
  • Click the "File Types" tab
  • Find the file icon you want to change and select it
  • Click the "Advanced" button
  • Click the "Change Icon..." button

Uninstall IconPackager

if anyone out there wants to do a manual for Object Desktop...that would be of great help

There is a manual available through Stardock Central, although it is not complete. This has been requested previously and might be available in the future.

"Cache" is a universally term that means "temporary storage". Your cpu and hard drive are two devices that use "cache." Many programs use cache to save temporary files and settings.
