WB5 Activation not working

I installed the latest WB5 beta update today - and ran into unknown problems.

Each time I tried to activate it (after some re-installations), I got the error message "Could not write activation signature". Then, after some attempts, I said "Maximum activation count reached".

How can I make it work again? Can I make it work at all?

Same here! Denied internet access for activate.exe the first time since I didn't know that I have to activate my OD subscription. After the necessary reboot WB started up and showed the activation window. I entered my e-mail and my OD subscription serial and now it says "Could not write activation signature".

That truly sucks! Shame on you, Stardock! Punishing honest long time customers. Paying since WB 1.x!

What can I do now?

BTW: I did not try again and do not get the message "Maximum activation count reached".

dsn: Please either post here the email address associated with your account or send an email to support@stardock.com with this info. I am not seeing anything under this username.

dsn, martin10018: Try this:

Fresh install of WindowBlinds 5 Beta
  • Close out of WindowBlinds
  • Navigate to your C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\Windowblinds directory
  • Delete everything in there (except your folders(skins) if you wish)
  • Restart your computer and delete anything that might not have deleted because "Windows could not delete this file"
  • Install the latest version of Windowblinds from Stardock Central
  • Restart your system

Let me know whether this resolves your problem.

I have exactly the same problem.
First, it says nowhere that it needs to be activated!! This has to change.
Second, when I figured it wants to connect to the internet I allowed it, then of course I got the infamous "Could not write activation signature" and I wonder why we get this message, after *one* try to connect without success. How can this be? Should be changed as well.
Third, I tried several times of course (until I found this thread), and seems I have the next problem now, "Maximum activation count reached".

Geee, thanks, I upgraded last week. If I had known I'd run into these kind of troubles I wouldn't have bothered at all.

@Mike: your instructions did work, they were correct for me, but unfortunately I have the next problem now. Can it be reset? Before I go and write an email ....

Thx.

Mark,

this didn't work for me. I'm still getting the maximum activations exceeded message.

I bet this only solves the "Could not write activation signature" thing. Folks at Stardock have to reset our accounts because we were stupid enough to hit the activate button many many times, in the vain hope to get it working.

You'll need to copy and paste the info you have given here to an email to support@stardock.com in order for them there at the special place to reset your activation.

Mr Dolenur: I've reset your activation count.

mark7649: I read your post in the other Activation thread and have reset your count already.
