WB 5 Beta 2 Update Error

Installation Failed?

I tried to update WB5 (beta 2) through Stardock Central and upon installation (after files have been downloaded).....I keep getting a:

"There was an error installing WindowBlinds 5. The following error occured:

Load: C:/Program Files/Stardock/SDCentral/installed/wb5.xml 1
Result: Installation Failed (0)"

Anyone know what this is and how to resolve it???

I had this happen for the first time for me today, too.
Uninstall WB5 (you can keep the skins already there). I did not reboot after uninstall. Then install and the installation is going fine, now. If I reboot after it gets finished installing and hell broke loose, I'll post a follow-up.

I ran Stardock Central today and it tried to update all my applications. It kept getting these same error for each one.

I'd love to know what the problem is.

You first have to uninstall the application before installing the new version.

Uninstalling does the trick for both WindowBlinds and Skin Studio. Both installed just fine.

I wonder why I didn't have to do the uninstall-reinstall thing. Mine just simply updated and asked me to restart.

I get the same problem, but it seems that it's at least in part because Stardock Central seems to have lost my registration info.

After first updating I got an error stating that it could not log in (had been fine before the update). I go verify the account name and reenter the password and it logs in, but upon trying to update WindowBlinds 5 I get an error, within the log it says "Serial: ERROR".

I check in the settings and it lost my serial for both Object Desktop and Think Desk. It seemed to allow me to reenter the serial for OD, but I get an error saying that "The email address you have entered does not match our records". In addition, when I try to "look up serial" I get an error stating that the email address cannot be found.

After a reboot, Stardock Central is once again unable to log in.

same here. I saw in another thread that you installed over 4.6 as did I. I keep seeing recommendations from Stardock support people that you should uninstall 4.6 before installing WB5. Wondering whether I should have, since I have occasional hangs if I load a skin through Display Properties or the WB loaded tool tip. I think I'll just leave it as is for now. When I downloaded (after a few days to see if anyones computer freaked) I searched for any hint as to whether I should unload 4.6 first but couldn't find any. Saw people doing it both ways with success. Why so many people are having problems with updates is a mystery. But since I've only had a computor for a year now most things are still kind of supernatural to me.

Forgot to mention that I did update SDC first.

If you're having trouble updating apps with Stardock Central, please close out of Stardock Central, download this file and extract it to your "C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral" directory. We apologize for your trouble.
