Long time lurker - a few quick questions...

A quick survey of the boards didn't answer these questions...to my satisfaction.

1) I just bought GalCiv2 - DreadLords (online) and was wondering the following:
a) Since I opted for the CD Version $44.95 + SH will I still be able to download Beta4 too?

2) When Beta4 is discussed as "being released Thrusday" is that this Thursday November 3rd, 2005 or next Thursday November 10th, 2005?

3) System Requirements: I have seen different postings on system requirments - some say Pentium 2 others pentium III...all seem to indicated 64 mb graphics card.... This concerns me the most becuase if you have a Pentium 2, chances are you DON'T have a 64 mb graphics card...and spending 300+ to add a new graphics card to your old crappy Pentium 2 doesn't seem worth it....now I have a couple of PCs (a new Gateway with all the bells and whistles - 128mb VC, 512 Ram, latest processor 3.2 Mhz or whatever...) but its a DESKTOP at home shared by the Family....what I really want to do is play this game on my LAPTOP while traveling etc...its a

Dell Inspirion 4100
Pentium III - 1.2 Mhz
512 RAM
32 MB Video Card (just upgraded from 16mb - now MAXED OUT)

My question is will DREADLORDS play on my LapTop? I believe my Processor and RAM are well in excess of what's required but will it fail to run with out a 64mb VIDEO CARD!!!!

If it doesn't run I will be so very, very sad...

Thanks in advance!

1) AFAIK, ordering the CD version is exactly the same as ordering via download/TGN, except that you pay a bit extra and get a disc too. So yes, you can participate in the beta.

2) Tomorrow. (The message you saw was posted last week.)

3) From what I'm aware of, your system should be able to *run* the game, provided your graphics chipset is directX 9 compatible. The sticky part is the 32mb vram. You'd have to get the specifics from one of the programmers, but AFAIK it will run but you'll likely run out of texture memory if you try to play on larger map sizes.

Thank you very much for the reply...

Just thought I should mention that I was so anxious for an answer so I launched Stardock Central (the software thingy that came with GalCiv I so you could download updates) and asked whether it would be possible to download DREADLORDS tomorrow there...the reponse was interesting so I thought I'd share...

"the original plan for was for tomorrow, however, we can no longer garantee (sp) that we will be able to keep that promise!"

- ack, if what was stated was true, looks like Next Thrusday is more likely...

For the record, the original plan was for last Thursday.

Just being nitpicky.

well I'm just saying that Nov 3rd (using a date seems better - to avoid confusion) may not happen either...let's hope they get it done. I'm really looking forward to it!

After chatting on IRC a bit yesterday, I got that it looks pretty good for Thursday (11/3). However, "Looks good" is nothing comparable to an absolute promise. I do know though that the devs have a pretty good incentive to get it out the door tomorrow afternoon

Essentially, the status is a "definite maybe"

You may also want to turn off anti-aliasing when playing on your laptop as well.  It won't look as pretty, but you'll get better framerates.

After Civ4 PC requirments nothing surprices me anymore

Anyway P3 1.2 is pretty old , of cause it's not my place to judge but you can get P4 2.4 or something like that prety cheap this days.

My comp is about 2.5 years old and its a 2.0ghz. Modern games will ask for relatively modern hardware, having said that I don't think the final build is going to push a computer bought in the last 2 years too hard.
