CPU Monitor not working

Good day everyone. All of a sudden, when I use desktopX, everything works find except the CPU monitoring. I know it is not the theme, it happens on all. I have disinstalled and installed again, problems, doesn't go away. Anyone have any ideas, I ran out.

Thanks.....KeepOn

Which theme are you referring to and what is the name of the object/widget? Had this been working previously?

Sometimes files associated with the PDH monitors can become corrupted. It can be weird, because some monitors will work and other won't. Check out the Q "My Perfmon counters have disappeared, been replaced with numbers or stopped working. How do I get them back?" from this Samurize FAQ:
http://www.samurize.com/modules/xoopsfaq/index.php?cat_id=1

Or just try this tool, works on XP as well as 2000:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/tools/existing/exctrlst-o.asp

I had a similar problem a few months back, and remember Exctrlst.exe being the solution, but can't remember how it worked. Hope you can take it from here!

I looked and tried this software and got no where.  I will try to explain a different way.  If I do CNtl Alt Del, the Windows task Manager will open up, and I do see my CPU usage there.  It is when I turn on DesktopX and run any theme, they all work fine, excet the CPU.  It stays at zero and if i look in the window Task manager, it works fine.

First thing I'd try is clearing the DX cache. You can follow Corky_O's tutorial for that. If that doesn't work a little more system info may help.
What kind of CPU?
What other software is loaded/running?
What version of Windows? etc.

Corky's tutorial can be found here Link

Thanks sir for the reply. I delete all folders from the cache, rebooted and i still don't see the cpu monitoring. I have a fast machine 3.2 with a gig of memory. And it worked with this machine before. Must be some program that is causing this, or a software problem. It bugs me, I almost feel like formatting, my whole machine and start from scratch. But i don.t have the guts to do it yet....

Can you think of any programs you installed or updated (including Windows) recently that would coincide with the problem?

Another item might be script blocking by your virus protection. Do you use Norton?

As far as the reformat/start from scratch issue, no matter how well I prepare it seems like there's always something I forget to backup. It's usually something like a configuration file or some freeware I've downloaded or I might forget to write down my DNS numbers or copy out my Stardock reg#'s etc. So if you choose this route spend the time up front and make sure you've got everything for every program backed up.

Lantec: Unless you reformat all the time like I do...I gotta stop tweaking my registry...

Unless you reformat all the time like I do

Usually about every six months or after a really nasty XP update. Whichever comes first.

I feel that pain. I'm always trying something new and I will reformat at the drop of the hat rather than waste time troubleshooting. Now I have a fresh install, no tweaking done, ghost image on my server, a nice Bart Pe boot Cd with Ghost32 on it. Ghosted that puppy to a shared network resource for safekeeping. I can be back up and running within a few minutes now with light to moderate re-installations yet to do.

It sounds to me like a script or process is not communicating the CPU activity with DesktopX.

If your Task Manager is reporting CPU activity correctly, then it is unlikely that the issue is a fault in OS.

Does this monitor need the "sdmcp.exe" process running? If so, do you see this process running in Task Manager?
