OSD Buttons and WB5

Eliminated as many possibilities as I can think of

I've had a problem recently where pressing any button on my computer that uses On Screen Display the service vesmgr.exe (VAIO Event Service Manager) will crash. It's not critical but it does impact quite a few fucntions including Power Management. I've done the "process of elimination" thing and it looks like a WB5 issue.

My puter is
Windows XP SP2
Sony VGN-A690 Laptop
1.9GHz Centrino
1 GB Ram
ATI Radeon X600 PCIE 128 MB
Laptop 1920x1200, 21" monitor 1600x1200
Running: Object Dock+, IconX, RightClick, Iconpackager, Windowblinds5, Enhanced Dialog, All latest except IP which is ver 3.00b.093
Installed but not running: DX3 3.10.042 and Object Bat 1.99e[b].002 and WindowFX 2.20c[b].003

WindowBlinds 5 BETA Troubleshooting Report:

STATUS : WB+ SRV+ HLP+ UI+

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC.

WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC

Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

You have one monitor in total.

(Sony Notebook LCD (1920x1200)) 1 is attached to ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600
'ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600' also exists as device '\\.\DISPLAY2', but is not attached to the desktop.
'NetMeeting driver' also exists as device '\\.\DISPLAYV1', but is not attached to the desktop and is a mirror driver.
'RDPDD Chained DD' also exists as device '\\.\DISPLAYV2', but is not attached to the desktop and is a mirror driver.

OK guys I know it's in development so hopefully this will end up in the "to be addressed" list. Thanks

One thing I almost forgot. I've noticed that if I try to apply skins from the appearance page itself the change does not complete and when I reboot to get out of the Display properties box I still have the blind I was using before I tried to make the change. If I click the "Windowblinds" button onthe appearance page it takes it's time but it does change correctly.

Which skin are you using?

Does this happen with non per pixel skins?

5imple Alpha, also showed on Mike's Arrow and Azenis per pixel but it has happened while using DogmaX3, Anion and just to check I tried Devoir which is a ver 3 something skin. It's consistent.

It's a bug on WB5 on all skins or incompatibility with WB5

I have a Vaio and the same problem when I use shortcut for sound or display the vesmgr.exe (VAIO Event Service Manager) service crash.

Have you find a solution ?

I have a very simple solution.

Don't use the OSD.

Makes it hard to eject CDs & DVDs without using the button. Not impossible, just difficult. Same goes for screen brightness.

Having said that, I'm on WB4.95(b).008 (I know there's a .012 out) and I have so far today NOT had the problem occur.

Sooooo....BIG kudo's to Neil and the development team for squashing this one.

Posted about this in PFM's post on the same subject...Earlier today while at the office I had the laptop running a dual monitor display. The buttons worked almost all day. When I finally did get the error message, the buttons continued to function.
Then I came home and booted up the computer and after 20 or 30 minutes I tried using the buttons and they crashed. Biggest difference here is I don't use the docking station and I don't have a second monitor.

Just thought I'd mention that the 4.96 update seems to have eliminated the problem. I've been using the buttons for more than a week now with no crashes.
