Awaiting feedback

I've sent several suggestions directly, but not heard back so I thought I'd post them to see if they elicit a reasponse.

1) Can we see downloads for trial versions?
2) Can we get sales reports by periods quickly rather than explicitly specifying dates: e.g. this week, this month, this year, total
3) Can the published gadgets page default to "Approved gadgets" rather than "New gadgets in moderation"
4) Can we fix sales reports. Currently mine shows xx sales, -$195.55 revenue. Am I working off a debt to buy my freedom?
5) I see no hardware specs on the site to advise users before they purchase. If there is a trial version they can try that, but otherwise, how do they know if the purchase will work on their machine
6) Can we see details of customers. Without this, we don't know who we should service in terms of queries/problems, and we can't advise them of updates etc
7) Is it possible to reduce the period before developers are paid after the end of the quarter. I understand there is processing time, but 90 days means developers could wait 6 months to see the proceeds of the sale which seems excessive

I think that's enough to be going on with!

I agree with all of the above..
And i also think that if you have approved gadgets that someone should at least eamil you to tell you that its been approved, or at least respond to emails asking about why an update hasent been approved in 2 weeks!!

Martin, I agree with all your statements... I'll be talking to some of the higher-ups about these issues as soon as I can, if they are not responded to shortly.

1) Can we see downloads for trial versions?

Currently we are not tracking the download stats separately.  But I do see how that would be a good thing to see.  We will see what we can do about getting that in.

2) Can we get sales reports by periods quickly rather than explicitly specifying dates: e.g. this week, this month, this year, total

We should be able to add that in.  Will put it on my list.

3) Can the published gadgets page default to "Approved gadgets" rather than "New gadgets in moderation"

Shouldn't be hard to do. On the list.

4) Can we fix sales reports. Currently mine shows xx sales, -$195.55 revenue. Am I working off a debt to buy my freedom?

Fixed

5) I see no hardware specs on the site to advise users before they purchase. If there is a trial version they can try that, but otherwise, how do they know if the purchase will work on their machine

We could put some general requirements (DesktopX Requirements) on the site but it would be up to the authors to include any specific information (if needed) in their description.

6) Can we see details of customers. Without this, we don't know who we should service in terms of queries/problems, and we can't advise them of updates etc

We will have to give this one some thought. But my initial thoughts on this is that we probably wouldn't do this.

7) Is it possible to reduce the period before developers are paid after the end of the quarter. I understand there is processing time, but 90 days means developers could wait 6 months to see the proceeds of the sale which seems excessive

This is unlikely to change because we are setup to do a major part of our book keeping on a quarterly basis.  Changing this would cause  extra amount of work for out accounting dept which would increase our expenses. If we were to increase our expenses we would have to decrease the percentage authors receive on their sales.

Thanks ever so much for the feedback, I look forward to seeing the updates.

Re contact details. I can see the need for data protection etc, but developers need supporting too. Think the risk of developers abusing the system is about as likely as individuals claiming to have purchased the product and seeking an "update" to be sent directly.

How about when a customer downloads a gadget, there is a checkbox where they can opt to not receive updates/support etc. At the moment I feel there is a risk that customers do not get benefits they are entitled to if an item is updated etc.
