Viraxian Vision of Viscera and Vassals

Working on starting a new empire, called the Viraxian Ascension. The story revolves around a symbiont race that crash landed on a hostile earth, that was just begining space flight.

Each member would not be limited, nor harrassed, on what alignment they played. Senate membership would require a pure evil, and a pure good game metaverse submission. There will be a limited amount of initial openings for the senate (5). Those promoted I would want to have a common link to the storyline in role playing stories. Otherwise, just play.

Senate members are Symbiont/Human that have reached ascension. Regular member could still write, but be viewed like sympathic supporters for the cause. (if you know what I mean).

As I said before, I have never wrote role-playing fiction, so some of what I might jot may be stooooopid. LOL

So, I am wondering if there is any interest in something like this?

Good idea to solicit for feedback before you start your empire, couslee. :)

Good luck, man! :D And I love your empire already! I love it I swear!

This guys good! Dudes and dudets, seriously, if ya wanna join a new empire... this guy's good. He is! ;)

Kit, whatever you're drinking tonight must be good. Have an extra bottle?

couslee, I like the idea of encouraging split alignments. More creative than "anything goes" or "only my way," but without drawing a road map. Good luck!

Give it a shot. New empires today need more than someone slapping a name on them to have a chance to break into the big leagues. They need a real foundation of active folks. One way to get that is with a theme and then a history that grows behind that theme as the young empire recruits and climbs up.

I think this empire has a lot of promise! Don't give up too quickly if not a lot of people jump in. It takes a while for recruitment to blossom.

Good luck! Who knows, you could be the next Jedi Republic, Illuminati, or even Fellowship! :) :HOT:

I just wanna have some fun. Top Bird is fine, but the Viraxians just want to get home. ;)

I am going to put the story line in this thread, then when we have enough members, I will open a communications thread.

All comments are welcome. We won't peck your eyes out... promise :evil_laugh:

Soon as I finish my current game, I will get on it.

The History
End of quote

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, there lived a race of symbiont creatures. This spirit form of sentient beings peacefully co-existed in a winged creature called the Vireo. The food chain on Titicaca, their home planet, was a simple one. The abundant flora provided material for the beetles and worms to compost and survive, which in turn nourished the plants. The Vireo kept the insect population in check as it was it's primary food source, and provided a host for symbiont. With no predators and no illnesses, it was a genuine paradise.

The Host
End of quote

The Vireo had a life span of only about 30 years, And self-reproduces when it's life span reaches the end. At which time the symbiont would enter into the new host and continue on. The Vireo had a unique appearance as far as galactic races go. Their fluorescent green plumage blended into the pale tegument around their face and chest. Evolution had Been quite generous to them. It provided them with not only a feathered covering to protect them from both inclement weather and the effects of the double suns, but it's rapturous legs and feet were designed for stable walking. Sometime prior to the symbiont ascension, one of it's double sets of wings evolved into a set of talon clad arms, which allowed for easier foraging through the ground cover compost bed. It's wings were large enough to allow the 4 foot tall bird-man low level flight, which it used to spot the only two insects on the planet, which it fed on.

The Symbiont
End of quote

The ageless symbiont of the Vireo were called the Virax, who's evolution stemmed from the worm like creatures inhabiting the planet. Once being able to form a symbiotic relationship with the Vireo, a type of ascension occurred. The virax had a brief period of reproduction, but that mysteriously ceased when all the Vireo were symbiotized. With the combined abilities of two separate brains, they were able to make technological advances at an amazing rate. The period between mastering fire and discovering orbital flight was only about 900 hundred years. It turned out to be a good thing, because they soon found out there was an unavoidable event on the horizon.

Planet Death
End of quote

Emperor Viracocha summoned his only child, the lovely Virago (beauty is in the eye of the beholder).
"My child, (he pauses) I have some terrible news to give you. There is going to be a catastrophe happen."

"What is it Father?" She calmly replied. She could see the distress in her fathers expression, and was careful to not over-react.

"There was......Well, I will just be blunt about it. Our orbital research facilities have shown there is going to be an eclipsing of our two suns, that will last about 100 years."

"And this means.........what?" Virago asked.

The Emperor lets out a heartfelt sigh, and replies. "The plant life here is going to die, and without the suns light, the seeds will not germinate. And without the cover of the leaves, the insects will hibernate. Our food source is going to disappear."

"I see. Do we have a plan to address that?"

"There is only one hope for us, we must leave Titicaca while the planet sleeps. The bad news, is we do not know where we will go, or how far we will have to travel to find a temporary home. Time is of the essence, as our hosts can not survive in space, or here, without a food source. to stay here would be certain extinction. We have found a way to place a few of us in stasis, but the mineral needed for the stasis is very rare, and only enough has been found for two Viraxian. We will be those two."

The emperor continues, "We have created two androids, one will remain on the planet and monitor the re-growth. When the planet is ready for us again, it will remove us from the stasis chamber. It will also monitor the communication array for any signals from the evacuation ship, and if a suitable planet is found, it will send us in stasis to that planet and continue it's duties here. The other one will go with the ship and transmit data back to Titicaca."

"I see" she solemnly replies. "If we are going into stasis, who is going to lead the evacuation?"

Viracocha says "The choice I made for this task is couslee. He has shown honor in all he does, but is not afraid to make the hard decisions. He even volunteered for this. I have given him the title of "General", which will from this day carry a level of importance only surpassed by ourselves."

"couslee? I do love him, but I can think of no better person for the job. I will long for him while I am in stasis" She replied.

"As will I, my dear."

The Exodus
End of quote

General couslee's voice booms over the com "Prepare for departure! Set a course for that anomaly." He hopes to be able to find a solution to their problem, before they pass the point of no return.

"All systems go. Sir" came back the replies from the various stations.

"Engage".

As the evac ship "Hero" enters the anomaly, little did they know it was going to fling them to the farthest reaches of the galaxy, and promptly collapse. Sealing off Titicaca from the ship, and no further communications with the planet would be possible.

The Arrival
End of quote

The ship emerges in a system that is nowhere on their star charts. couslee realizes the dilemma they are in, and orders an immediate scan of the planets in the system.

"What does the sensor reading show?" He asks the android as he turns his attention to the data screen. He reads that there is but one possible habitable planet in this system. Knowing this lucky break is their only hope of survival, he orders the ship to enter into a stationary orbit around the red planet nearest the habitable world. "Continue scanning the third planet." He orders the android.

Sensors showed that there is a multitude of life forms on this planet, but none of any discernible intelligence. At least we will not have to worry about dying in space he thinks to himself.

Again over the com, the Viraxian refugees here he order "All persons report to your assigned seating in the colony craft, and prepare for separation." He turns to the android and orders it to launch the craft once everyone was on board, and then land on the red planet and continue to send transmission into deep space, with the hope of being able to notify the home world they did not all perish. He turns and heads for his capsule on the colony ship.

The Landing
End of quote

With all Viraxians secured in the honeycomb style capsules, it approaches the third planet. The previous planetary scans had revealed a rain forest on one of the southern continents, and was the target landing site.

After descent, the colonists began setting up an argricultural system and living quarters. The stair stepped housing pryaminds gave them the most living area, and allowed a hunting vantage point from all levels.

In keeping with their culture, they created large animal drawing on the surface of the planet. large enough to be seen from space. This also would allow the "Hero" android to spot their final landing location.

Things looked hopefull for their survival.

Tragedy Strikes
End of quote

Their luck had appeared to run out, thought couslee. Scouts had found there were tribes of bipedal creatures, considerably larger than the Virax. If these things found out about them, well there was no way to predict would would happen. Even worse, was the fact when one of the scouts returned, it had been infected with a hostile microbe. This microbe was not harmfull to the Virax, but was deadly to the Vireo, their host .

"We only have one chance for survival." couslee says to the senators whom he had called for a breifing. "We have to try and form Ascension with these tribal creatures. Therefore I ask you take those under your governorship, and we will head out in six different directions. Find tribes of these creatures, and try and form symbiosis with them."

As the main colony disperses into six large flocks, they head out to secure their survival.

First Contact
End of quote

As the flock with couslee approached the outskirts of a tribe. He says to the others "I will go first." He swoops down on the creature, and releases his hold on the Vireo. Being a spirital symbiont, it was able to enter the creature with any damage being done to it. So far so good he thinks to himself.

He is only able to form a partial ascension. It was enough that he could understand the thoughts of these, but had little control over it's actions. He had managed to take control of it, but he knew it would not last. He much warn the others. Stumbling back to the flock, he tells them what he has found out.

"We can survive in these creature, but it will not be easy. They are inherently violent. They seem to have this thing they call a soul, but it is... soured." couslee continues "This "soul" will have the majority of control over these creature, and we must try and stop it from putting the host's body in danger. Perhaps over time, we will be able to form a complete Ascension with the host, but there is know way of knowing if, or how long this could take. They call themselves "Humans"".

And so begins the battle between the symbiont and the host, the spirit and the soul, and good against evil.

couslee:

Excellent storyline and background! You've got a really good theme to start an empire around.

I always wondered where that bird carving in South America came from... :D

General couslee sits in his ship and ponders the past several years. It had seemed like only yesterday he had landed on that shining new planet. Over the centuries, moving from host to host, he had lost contact with all the other Viraxians. And now that the Humans had invented a way to escape their orbit and travel towards the stars, he hoped he would be able to find the others.

He knew that in order to complete his secert mission, he had to attempt a full Ascension with this host. Every other host he had tried with before, went madly insane, and each ended up without higher thought.

When he was apointed to head to Mars mission, he took advantage of the oppertunity to locate the "Hero". Once he found it, and was about to launch her, one of the other exploration members calls out to him.

"SIR!.....Long Live Emperor Viracocha."

How could this be he thought to himself. Could it be that another viraxian had also been placed on this mission?

"Secure the area, while I re-activate the andriod. I am talking the Hero off planet. I must try to Ascend with this one." couslee replied to the science officer.

After General couslee launched the Hero, he moved the craft a fair distance from Mars. He managed the get the human to try and sleep. It took a while as this human had a liking for computer games. Once the host fell asleep, couslee proceeded.

Jolting from his sleep, couslee hears the proximity alarm going off. He rushes to the small window and is horrified to see a large fleet of space craft approaching that appear to be warships. "They must have been hiding in the asteroid belt" he mumbles to himself. After sending a transmission to the Viraxian he re-united with on the surface, to retreat back to Earth and notify NASA. "I must engage them, THE COWARDS!~"

As complete maddness sets in, the spirit symbiont could do nothing but wait for the fool to kill himself. he thought he had attained control, but alas the shock and horror of the approaching warships was too much for the frail human mind. Too much his aswell, and he fades to rest.

All of a sudden he snaps awake. Something seems different. Something he has not felt in a long time.... Ascension!

As he looks out the window again, he sees nothing but destroyed craft and smoldering planets. As his memory starts to clear, he remembers the human's period of madness. He had become the most ruthless battle tactician ever seem in Human history, nearly single handedly destroying the invasion fleet. Though he was saddened by the barbarism the human had done, he was grateful his brain had not turned into yogurt.

The android announced an incomming message.

couslee drifted over to the screen and read the following message:

"Congrats on your victory General. You have new orders. You are to rendevous with the approaching fleet and assume command. You mission is to find out where the enemy came from, and deal with them appropriately. Good luck."

"Move to intercept the fleet." he tell the android. Reflecting back on the previous battles, he swears to himself, that when they find the home of the enemy, he is not going to be the same barbarian this race had met previously. It was "good"'s turn.

Whew........ so, that's thing. Be it good, bad or ugly. I hope some can take the theme and run with it.

Got my two games in. One pure evil-0, One saintly-100.

I think my brain is yogurt now. :)

Oh, now that is sad. Didn't even get a :VOMIT: to the story line.

Caught the AI cheating in my current game. I wanna get a free colony ship too when I nab a system. Is this a colonization event only the computer gets?

How so? They probably rushed one when they colonized a system. I see that often. Not advisable in my opinion for humans.

Ok, saw your elaboration in another thread. If it was instantaneous, then yes, it would be unusual.

It was a dark day indeed for the human expansion. Having devoted it's resources to building constructors for the abundant mining oppertunities, it was not in a position to defend itself against the onslaught. The force had expended it's materials to the point everyone was on emergency rations already (-486bc).

Thanks to the UP, the newly designed constructors could travel an impressive 9 areas per cycle. The fleet of constructors and all available warships were halfway across the tiny galaxy when THEY came.

An invasion fleet from the Drengin Empire. The human foot hold in this galaxy was small, and it's two systems were about one cycle away from a massive invasion. It was to be a crushing blow to the human expansion.

Knowing his only hope of survival was to flee to another galaxy, couslee ordered all ships that could follow, to do so. The rest were to scuttle their ships, and board one of the ones that was able to leave. It was truly a dark day for the humans.

If you notice, when you nab a system, the production amount stays with the system. Sometimes it was working on, for example, a battleship with more than enough resources spent for a colony ship. You could then change the production to colony ship and get it right away if you are fast enough to beat the multi-thread turn flip on a cultural assimilation, or next turn if you aren't fast enough, or if it was a military invasion. The Computer has the same opportunities as you in that regard. I think of it as a glitch rather than a cheat. But I'd much rather keep the glitch and keep the multithreading rather than wait 20 minutes between turns. Only those of us on slower machines can do it. On the quicker machines the turn catches up to quickly.

Ok, saw your elaboration in another thread. If it was instantaneous, then yes, it would be unusual.

You can get an instantaneous one too if you have a slow machine that doesn't update turns too quickly. On your culture flip just find the planet almost done with a dread or something and downgrade it to a ship that's almost done. You'll get it that turn if you are quick enough with the clicking. It's a glitch.

P.S. You can get it on a military invasion too. You just have to be lightning quick with the clicking as the computer doesn't have the multitasks it has at the turn change (ie when a culture flip happens)
I've tended to notice it far less now that my specs are better than they once were. But it still happens on occasion. It's actually annoying when it happens though. Cuz it sticks a bit and I end up clicking 3 or 4 times (sending me to who knows what screen) before it catches up.
That is not the case Pontius. The AI (minor civ) moves his colony ship to a star system that has not been claimed by anyone. It colonized one of the planets in that system, and instantly got another colony ship (the same turn it colonized the planet in). It looked like he got the colony without having to expende the colony ship. The new colony ship did have a different number. So it got a free ship.

the multi-thread turn flip on a cultural assimilation, or next turn if you aren't fast enough
End of quote

LOL, I don't have a clue what you said there. If your talking about accumulated production being retain, that is a different situation than what I am talking about.

Don't have a slow computer either. AMD XP 1700 processor (but I only have 128 ram. I plan on adding more soon)
