Misc Icons Versus Objectdock Versus IconPackager

Misc Icons Versus Objectdock Versus IconPackager

Better moderation and guidelines needed

I'm curious as to why the "Objectdock" library is being flooded with submissions from the "Misc Icons" library that clearly are not "Misc Icons?" Shouldn't these be two different libraries? They are both starting to look the same lately. And doesn't "Misc" mean just that...misc...as in the odd icon? It seems that whole Icon packages are either broken down, or not packaged and submitted as "Misc Icons" instead of them being packaged and submitted as a package to the "Iconpackager" library, which if you look through the library of "Objectdock" you can see there is nothing "Misc" or odd about many of these icons...since they could easily make up a whole package. It's as if I'm watching Mormegils icon tutorial all over again.

Using Docks, backgrounds, zoomers, tabs, .icos, .pngs, docklets, wig-wags, wam-wams, and zu-zus on an hourly basis, on two and/or more PCs. I check daily for specific items: backgrounds esp.
Why no specific category, "Object Dock Backgrounds", "Object Dock Docklets"? DX has "Themes", "Objects", "Widgets". We/I need it.

Thanks Seldomseen!   Would be nice for a change to have a library specifically dock backgrounds & docklets.   Maybe if enough people bitch about it something might get done.

*shakes his head*...how did I ever forget those....must mean I've exceeded the daily limit.

For those of you that have recently commented...Thank you. It's nice to see that others feel the same way that WG and I do. I'll keep making them if you keep downloading them.

again, let me stress, I can get behind the effort to split up the gallery into sections, I think it's a fantastic idea! also, again let me stress that the docks, backgrounds, & zoomers created by WG, messiah1, cavan and these other fellas are some of the most fantastic creations one could ever download from any site.

And hows that Orange dock of yours coming bandit?

I got a little too heavy with the transparency, WG and it vanished!

Wow...I thought I was the only one who wondered why individual icons/png's that SHOULD be part of a package are quickly overwhelming every other submission!

Not at all sure how I missed this thread before...But I agree w/ WG - browsing through the OD gallery for dock backgrounds can be frustrating...I would very much like to see a OD background gallery! One other thought WG & Messiah(since you two are so good at backgrounds), I'd sure like to see more "generic" dock backgrounds, as opposed to matching a WB skin...I personally get tired of every windowblind I try quickly, and just find myself changing to another one WAY too often...kinda cuts back on productivity! (and drives my wife absolutely CRAZY!!). I always seem to find myself back to good 'ol Win98 interface.

Thanks Brokensquare!

As for generic backgrounds...there are several...which are most likely buried in the ObjectDock library
Here's a few you might want to check out.

Clearness

Transparent This one has several different colors to it.

I have some others I haven't uploaded yet...but because of how the library is being allowed to be overrun by icon/png I don't think I'll be uploading anything else to the library. I will be uploading to other sites though. If they ever wake up and fix the library then I might start uploading here again. But no point now when the work I do gets buried and never seen again. Who wants to wade through tons of icons/pngs to find the dock backgrounds that are buried deep in the library?

If you send me an email mynick@msn.com I have a few others I'll send you to try out that I'm sure you'll like. It's ones that I use for just about any skin.

I agree there should be an ObjectDock background gallery, many a time my docks have been buried by pngs and icons, never to be seen! Other sites have galleries for OD backgrounds and tabs, how hard would it be to make a gallery just for dock backgrounds?  Thanks WG, messiah and bandit for all the docks you guys take the time to make!

I want a background gallery

Thanks John! And your docks as well are a great addition to the library, so don't leave yourself out! It's just a shame they only get seen for a day or 2 and the the invasion starts all over again.

And thanks to you Bichur & Seldomseen. Would have been nice to get a library for dock backgrounds & docklets as well...but I ain't holdin my breath anymore. I will have some new docks uploaded at skinning.net & skinnalicious.net...but there won't be any new ones here until things change. I may even surrender the ObjectDOCK library to the icon/pngs since my docks are pretty much dead in the water after awhile...so no point for them to even be there taking up bandwidth...and since its not my site I have no say in what happens here...so much for "community support."

Wow...

You know, ..I thought I'd already responded to this thread when it was originally posted. ...{chalk it up to early senility)

Sorry 'bout that Giz, but you and I have discussed this on occasion over the last couple of years, and you already know I'm 100% behind the idea of an OD library of it's own.

Just posting this now to put it out here in text ..to give it substance rather than just agreement with you.

Stardock:

Please create a gallery JUST for OD backgrounds/docks/docklets.

As a user, it really IS a nuisance having to wade thru all those icons/png's to find docks...

[I'm kind of hoping that with all the excitement of building and getting the new site up, you just forgot....]

Thanks Gooberbean and Brokensquare. I've got some generic docks out there but I'll make some more. I'm glad to see there are some people that support the OD Background only library. Keep bumping the thread.

I'll put my vote in for a separate gallery too!

I'm sure they're well aware of it, but the new site is quite a chore at the moment and it'll take some time to go through the database and get things sorted.

FREE THE DOCKS!!

FREE THE ICONS!!

.ICOs should NOT be allowed in the ObjectDock gallery.

.PNGs SHOULD be allowed.

(if they have both, they should be allowed too).

But .ICOs should be in the Misc. Icons gallery where they belong.

.ICOs should NOT be allowed in the ObjectDock gallery.

.PNGs SHOULD be allowed.

And this is the problem...anyone can convert they're icons to pngs (same thing in my book...just a different file type name) and now flood the ObjectDock library with them resulting in the dock backgrounds and docklets getting buried and never seen again. Like I keep saying....its Object"Dock"...as in dock backgrounds & docklets...not Object"PNG"...and yes...I know icons & pngs are used with ObjectDock...and using that argument then you should just allow icons in there as well...since like I said...its only a difference of file type names. But ObjectDock is about the dock backgrounds & docklets...not pngs.

But having said that...again...its not my site...and if this is going to be the way the ObjectDock library is going to be treated...then fine. Then I see no point in continuing to contribute to that library and I now surrender it to the png creators. I'm not going to continue taking the time to create these dock backgrounds for ObjectDock only to have them buried and never seen again.
