how can you tell who manufactured integrated circuit

I wanted to know this it is part of an assignment.
I am doin computer engineering technology
how can you tell who manufactured integrated circuit?
Also ny links would help,especially with digital electronics.I know they are a lot of smart peole here so thats why i posted this question here,.

what info can you get form the chip.


the only thing you need...the part number.

Close. More commonly they have a small logo on it. See http://www.chipdocs.com/logos/logotypes.html to work out whose logo it is.

Once you have the manufacturer, you can go to their web site and download a datasheet which tells you basically every little thing about that IC. If you're lucky they'll also have Application Notes which give examples of how the chip can be used.

but if you had a texas instruments chip label SN74LS04N...what info can you get form the chip


Even easier, if you have the chip number is to type it into Google and very high up in the results will be links to a datasheet for it. Tells you everything you need to know.
