DX Widget.exe - It's not happy

Booted up and got an error message about dxwidget.exe. Event Viewer says: "Faulting application dxwidget.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module dxaxhost.dll, version 2.0.0.0, fault address 0x0002221b."

Uninstalled DesktopX 3, cleared user cache, cleaned registry and startup. Re boot and reinstall DesktopX. When I tried to run it I still got the same error. Repeating the above uninstall/reinstall didn't resolve the issue. I hadn't updated any other apps from the time it ran well to now except the last Stardock Central update for whatever bit of Object Desktop that it was for.

Any ideas would be very welcome. Thank you.

I've scoured through these forums and it is surprising how often this file "dxaxhost.dll" appears in error messages. It is almost invariably linked to the faulting application being one of the Object Desktop executables It's a real pain that it affects one of the major applications within Object Desktop. Unless you're a programmer felixnutella I think we're stuck till there is an update.

What is the widget you are having trouble with? They are .exe files. They should not have anything to do with anything else Object Desktop related.

You do not need to have desktop X installed to run a widget. Uninstalling and reinstalling Deskltop X isn't going to do anything for you.

You do not need to have desktop X installed to run a widget.

Slight correction - you will need DesktopX installed to run a widget, but you will not need DesktopX installed to run a gadgets.

Rahn and/or felixnutella,

Is this a global problem with all widgets, or just certain widgets?

Do either of you have the file "sdmcp.exe" showing as a running process in task manager? (this is needed for some functions in DesktopX).

Just trying to generate some more information to increase troubleshooting success.
