I am trying out a few IE based browser replacements.  I just saw the Avant browser has been updated.

I wasn't impressed with Opera as much as I used to be.  It seemed to load pages very slow, is this happening to anybody else?

I used Avant for a while and was pretty happy with it, then I started using Opera and fell for the mouse gestures but got talked into Firefox for the plugins. 90% of my browsing is now with Firefox with the rest Explorer for those old-fashioned sites that still demand it.

I snagged a copy of Opera when they were doing the free giveaway and might go back it though.

yep, and proxy connection doesn't seem to hold.

i'm not thrilled with how it divides the forum reply section in half either. and all those options. But dang it, it does skin more with WB than FF.

I have to say I was disappointed about Opera.  I was really excited to get a free license, but I uninstalled it after using it for about a day.

Yeah, me too, but not for the same reasons. My 3 month old HD died and had to be replaced, which thankfully wasn't that painful because it was due to a manufacturing fault and was replaced under warranty. However, when I reinstalled Opera and tried to re-register it with the free code, it kept saying that an error had occurred.....probably an invalid code. I retried it and ensured 'num and caps' were off but still no go, so I emailed them to enquire as what the issue may be but still have had no reply several days later.

It may be a case of easy come easy go for some folk, but I quite enjoyed using Opera without the advertising. Arthritis slows me down quite a bit these days, so I'm not too fussed if the pages load real slow

Oh well, I may yet purchase the full license if Avant isn't to my liking and nothing comparable comes along.

FWIW, if you like Avant Browser (and I certainly do), the developer has put up a version called Dr Orca based on gecko which is very similar. It's only an alpha. Although it seems stable, not everything works quite right yet.

Since I have to use IE with Wincustomize now, I have been using Maxthon and it's pretty nice.
