What kind of CP protection?

Hello,

I was just curious about what kind of copy protection GalCiv2 will come with. I heard somewhere that it will use a "dial home" system where your personal data will be sent to Star Dock for verification.

Don't know if I'm so crazy about that but if it is the type of CP Galciv2 will be using could someone explain to me how exactly it would work? If you uninstall the game would you have to go through the same process again when you install again?

In my opinion copy protection is getting quite intrusive and cumbersome lately (cough...starforce...cough) and I was just wondering what kind of CP GalCiv2 will be using.

Thanks.

Right now the beta has some sort of online verification for 'activating' the game. I haven't had to use this but I think the stardock proggie manager did it anyways during that last update.

Doubt it'll make it to release and it wouldn't be all that friendly on dial-up/satelite users or people who got the game outside their gaming computer if it did. (this isn't Symantec or Micro$oft we're talking about.) I understand the paranoia though.

Well GalCiv 1 didnt have any copy protection, and I doubt GalCiv 2 would either

I would be surprised if there was CP. I read a quote from Brad somewhere that the reason that there was no CP on GalCiv1 was not because Stardock was small, but rather due to a design philosophy. Any game can have its CP cracked and pirated within a matter of days, so the net result of all CPs is to annoy legitimate users and make their game run more poorly than the pirated copy ...

What is the third word on page 18?

I hate those

No I dont think there will be such a thing as that. Mind you I dont know how many copies will even be shipped to the stores but store sale will probably be less than 50% of the circulation. So not many peopel will even ahve instalation disks. Im sure the CP for physical game will be slightly different from the online bought one.

Copy protection is a waste of money and there won't be any CD-based copy protection on GalCiv II.

What? Less than 50% of the game products will reach the stores? I can't buy on-line (no credit card) I'd like one at the mall that I can get.

GalCiv II's boxed version will be available worldwide through a variety of retail and online outlets, don't worry.
