Is this forum for Object Dock too?

I have 2 icon issues:

Both icons were on my XP Qwik Launch bar. I dragged a Quicken icon to the ObjectDock and it lost its graphic but will still start the ap. I dragged a Show Desktop icon but it changed to a "?" and will not start the ap.

Help!

Thanks.

theilliniguy,

Yes, posting ObjectDock questions/issues here is the correct way to go.

The icons should work in both situations.

You might try the following:

Save your theme without the Quicken and Show Desktop icons > unload ObjectDock > clear the cache > restart ObjectDock (it will start with the default settings > try dragging the icons onto the dock that loads with default settings, and test for functionality.

Note - for instructions on clearing the cache, you can read my tutorial here Link - you will be deleting the ObjectDock folder found in "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock" folder.

If the icons function correctly, use the Load Theme function in the Dock Settings dialog to load your saved theme, and then try dragging onto a dock again.

If it does not work, you must have something in the theme that is corrupting the functionality.

Post again if the problem persists, and someone is bound to have an idea.

Thanks for the the suggestions. Completed all but still have these 2 icons turn into plain blue and white rectangle boxes when I drag them to the dock. What should I do next?

Hmmm.

A couple of questions and a couple of suggestions.

First the questions:

Which version of ObjectDock are you running (free or plus)?

If you click on the "plain blue and white rectangular boxes", do the correct actions take place (start Quicken, and Show Desktop)?

The suggestions:

Open My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > select "Show hidden files and folders" > click Apply (this is to gain access to the files when browsing).

Right-click the dock > select "Add" > New Shortcut > right-click the new entry that appears (should be the familiar Question Mark image) > select "Dock Entry Properties..." > click the Browse button to invoke the browse dialog > browse to "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch" folder > select the shortcut icon you want > click OK.

If you want to assign a different image, click the Change Image button in the Dock Entry Properties dialog > select an image > click OK.

Test the functionality of new entry.

If all is well, repeat procedure for the other shortcut icon you want to place on the dock.

Hopefully this will work.

If not, post again, and most likely an unload ObjectDock > Save image and theme files to a temporary folder > uninstall ObjectDock > reboot > clear the ObjectDock cache > reinstall ObjectDock procedure would be in order.

Corky - thanks for all your help. I'm still struggling.

Let me address your questions above:

I'm running ObjectDock free.

When I click on the "plain blue and white rectangular boxes", Quicken does start but Show Desktop does not work and now that I deleted it from the Objectdock, I don't even know what the shortcut is/was!

Let me address your suggestions above:

I completed going to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > select "Show hidden files and folders" > click Apply.

When I right-click the dock > select "Add" > New Shortcut > right-click the new entry that appears (should be the familiar Question Mark image) > select "Dock Entry Properties..." > click the Browse button to invoke the browse dialog > browse to "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch" folder > select the shortcut icon you want > click OK, I don't find anything because of course I removed everything from the Qwik Launch bar thinking I would not need them anymore!

So, in an attempt to fix the problems myself, I looked at some of the other shortcuts. When I look at the .exe for Quicken it does not have an image in the C:/Quicken folder. Seems odd becasue all other .exes have an icon associated with the .exe. So I may need to uninstall, reinstall, Quicken.

But, I don't have a clue as to what to do with the Show Desktop process.

theilliniguy,

Okay, it sounds like the issue may be in the removal of icons from Quick Launch toolbar.

To recreate the Show Desktop icon and function, follow the directions here Link

I also agree that reinstalling Quicken will fix the missing Quick Launch icon.

Some programs do place special function icons in the Quick Launch toolbar, and Quicken may well be one of these programs.

The other thing I would do in your case is to copy any image and/or background files that were installed in the "C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock" directory after installing the program - to a temporary folder in say My Documents.

Unload ObjectDock > uninstall ObjectDock > reboot computer > delete the ObjectDock cache > reinstall ObjectDock > test ObjectDock functionality with the default theme.

If all is well, create your theme using your restored icons.

Note - make sure to place all the image files in the appropriate folders in the ObjectDock directory:

For some understanding of working with the ObjectDock directory, you can read my mini tutorial here Link

I hope this works for you.

I forgot to mention,

I would recommend deleting any ObjectDock folder left in the "C:\Program Files\Stardock" folder after uninstall > reboot - and before reinstall to remove any possible left overs.

Is this forum for Object Dock too?

Pardon me for nit-picking, but technically, ObjectDock is not part of Object Desktop. Therefore, the answer is "not really". The proper place for this thread would be the ObjectDock forum https://www.wincustomize.com/Forums.aspx?ForumID=176 But it's not like we're going to beat you, or anything....

Huuuhh? I can only see Corky's answers (1,3,5) and all posts after that in this thread.

I wonder whether Corky talks to himself.......
... maybe he makes those threads up to give himself something to do?

Looks funny, doesn't it?

If you go to stardock.com/forums, you can see the other comments.

It must have something to do with users who are not members at WC?

DAIV,

If you have the Stardock Central program, you can create an archive and burn it to disc.

I wrote a mini tutorial on the subject here http://corkyo.wincustomize.com/Articles.aspx?SID=5463&AID=83629

To restore the program, you just install Stardock Central > place the archive (".zip") file in "C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\BACKUP" folder > use File|Restore Archive function.
