Question: Is the +Research race attribute too powerful?

I made a custom race where I chose the third level of Research bonus (+50% Research) for 4 race points, I believe. In-game, I managed to get about 5 planets colonized fairly quickly. I built about 3 Basic Labs on each planet before I started any research. At that point, I put 100% of my resources into research. I was getting a new Tech advance EVERY TURN for about 15-20 turns, and then I was getting advances every 2 turns for many more turns.

My question: Is this +50% Research boon too powerful for the price? I was going through the tech tree like a madman, and it just didn't seem right.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Any other race picks that seem to be out of balance?

I brought up a couple of balancing points the other day, apparently stardock aren't looking into balancing atm. Although beta 3 notes said they are. Oh well.

It sounds like you're right, either the cost needs upping or tech research time needs adjusting.

According to the readme.txt that came with beta 3 and beta 3a:
---------
Game balance isn't in there and there are lots of features not in. Examples:

* The AI doesn't really function yet.
* The technology tree is only at the very start
* There's hardly any planetary improvements
* There's no diplomacy or trade
* The setup screens are not really hooked up yet or fully designed yet.

The readme says a lot more as well.
