Other clues may be there in the debug file. The Stardock people can help (Cari and Scott).
So far, every problem I have seen reported on this forum about GC2 not starting has been a display driver and/or DirectX issue. (One of these days, someone will come up with one that isn't.)

My guess from the above two lines in your debug.err file is that you don't have DirectX at all. Hopefully, someone who knows will jump in here and give an authorative answer to why you got these two messages.
The information GC2 would find about your hardware would show in place of those two lines.
For example, in place of the two error lines above, my debug.err file shows:

If someone has any ideas, I would appreciate them
It concerns me that dxdiag is reporting that you only have 248 MB of RAM and that it wouldn't run from within the game.
I suggest that you un-install directx and get the latest version from the microsoft directx homepage. Also, you should run the Direct3D tests in dxdiag once you have directx re-installed.
All other things considered, it really looks like the key indicator to your problem is the failure of DXDIAG when called from within GC2. There are a whole lot of us testers playing GC2 without getting the symptoms you are, so I am forced to suspect something in DirectX - settings, corruption, or ??? After checking the settings, or uninstalling/reinstalling DirectX, let Cari (I am also curious) know how it went.
Good luck.
So this morning I tried running the game again and got this exception message:

This was the complete error via SmartException, no Debug info was present. I am also now having an issue trying to run the Web version of the DirectX install. It will not start, will try and trace that issue down. I will send the CRA file via the email posted
Glenn
update: I have been able to reinstall DirectX with the ReDistrib download. let me know it there is anything else I should do before running game

P.S. after looking at this file, I realized something. dxdiag info, is that a valid switch for the dxdiag?
I tried using that syntex in the run command line and dxdiag did not start. Doing a DXdiag /help the only. I also went up to my technet page and did a search for DXDiag commands, and any other way I could thing of using, but nothing dealing with the switchs came up on my searchs.
I did find a tool in the directx SDK kit called the directx caps viewer that shows all the hardware capabilities. But even in the developer kit I could find no referance to the "info" command listed in the .err file.
commands that are valid are:
Usage: dxdiag [/x outfile] [/t outfile] [/whqt on] [/whqt off]
No other commands are listed as valid arguments in the dxdiag help file, is it possible that win2k has a different set of commands?
or am I just confused

This raises some new thoughts, that I have to ask Cari, if I can get her on the Galciv chat. If I do, either Cari or I will post something further here.
The message in the debug.err file referring to dxdiag info is one of GalCiv2's debug messages. That specific message is reported if dxdiag fails to initialize.
Specifically, I call the functions that run dxdiag every time that GC2 loads and output some of that information to the debug.err file if the functions execute successfully. I don't run all of the tests that dxdiag does, though, because that would take too long. I only run the ones I really need.
I'll take a look at the crash log and see if I can figure anything out.
You're obviously able to create a Direct3D device...can you run in a resolution higher than 1024x768? You could try setting your color depth to 32 bit color and running in a window.

Maybe I don't know how the programing acts durning startup, If the game fails to start the DXdiag
command. Does that stop the loading of the rest. According to what I have seen in all the .err files.
The game seems to be loading all the modules it can find, then it just stops after setting the update timer.
Question is, have you programed a stop load after failure of the dxdiag program? If so why does it continue to load and setup modules for the game? And, if you have not programmed as stop load after the Dxdiag command, where is this actually failing?

Yeah, looks like there's a but when pressing the "Save" button when making a new Race, but if you just press 'Done' the game will run fine. We'll have this fixed for the next beta release.
Glad to hear the game is finally starting up for you
