Have you tried updating to 3.00d[b].002 via Stardock Central?

Stop looking.....

Run this: https://www.stardock.com/files/odnt_zapper.exe and get all of IP off your computer. Download a fresh install of 3.00a. Do not use a 'Download Manager'. Re-boot and then re-install IP to it's default location. Re-boot again.

OK let's get down to brass tacks. Master OrbitJuice says we need 3.00d[b].002 and yraq says to use zapper and install 3.00a. 3.00a doesn't work on my computer - period. What the......?!? I'm tired of all this. I just emailed support for a link to the latest build which would be "B". Either it works or it doesn't. I bought IP3 on June 27th and still can't run it. Messed around with it a number of times. Forced to do 3 restores. Stardock when are you gonna come through?

Chasbo,

The current released version 3.00b.093 is working fine (released 7/25/2005), and it does not include the iprepair.dll file that was causing problems.

I have personally tested it on a desktop and a laptop running XP (pro and home) W/SP2 while running WindowBlinds, ObjectDock Plus, and DesktopX at the same time. No issues with a variety of softwares including Office XP, Photoshop, CorelDRAW, Illustrator, Painter 9, Bryce 5.5, Poser 5, Nero 6, Icon Workshop 5.1, Snag-It 7, Acrobat 6, etc.

I am not sure if this will help you in any way, but using the zapper utility and deleting the IconPackager sub-directory found in your \Program Files\Stardock folder will normally allow you to install this version successfully via Stardock Central (note - make sure all programs are unloaded and your OS is using the default theme).

Unless you have a system with special requirements, or are running some conflicting software of some kind?

When I had deleted that dll and re-installed IP , the dll re-appeard . So this statement doesn't ring true. I can tell of at least one application faling to startup : my weather station software ( Virtual weatherstation ) , and this is tied in with COM-port .

I have a suspicion- no proof though- the iprepair .dll addresses the COM-service somehow - or alters it - thus making some applications "misbehave "

I don't mind as much though :that latest IP is still beta , and I'm simply going to wait with re-install until the final version appears.

Start/ Run: regsvr32 /u "C:\program files\stardock\object desktop\iconpackager\iprepair.dll" and reboot.

Ok, seems to to work . Will keep you updated ( and stardock-support) if anything goes awry again.

Obviously they'll need to address this issue prior to final release ( can't expect "regular users " having to unregister a service ) .

I just did clean installs of OS and all programs this weekend to remove Norton Internet Security from my machines (went with ZA pro 5.5, and AVG free), and after installing IP 3.00b.093 - there is no "iprepair.dll".

Statement is true, so I can only think that your previous installation tied up the library somewhere and it was not fully uninstalled.

You are suggesting I need to re-nstall my OS - again - that's a bit over the top to get cute icons if you ask me ..

Not suggesting anything, just clarifying that the "iprepair.dll" is not installed with the 3.00b.093 version.

I just did a clean install on both my desktop and laptop because it seems to be the only way to insure the removal of all the Norton Internet Security files.

It may be that in running a pre-released version of IconPackager 3 (or a version that included the "iprepair.dll" file), you end up with this particular .dll file sticking around for some reason.

I would think that uninstalling the program (with the .dll still registered), rebooting, and then deleting all trace of the program would remove it. You may have to do a registry search for IconPackager to remove all files.

yraq is far more competent with the deeper system files than I am, and may know the correct way to verify the removal of the "iprepair.dll" file.

I am thinking that once removed, it will not show up again after installing 3.00b.093. The problem should then be resolved if this is the disagreeable file.
