Social and Military project progress bars are nice, but the social bars are not working.

The shaded background for the current military and social projects on the planet screen are a nice way to show how far along the projects have progressed (cudos to the person that thought of this), but when cycling through the completions at the start of a turn the social bars often show an incorrect completion amount. In the more noticable cases they will show a social project as nearly completed when a new social project was selected by the governer. Also, when a military project is the completion being shown the social project bar will show no progress even though several turns of progress has been made. In both cases clicking on the current project in the social project selection list corrects the progress bar.

Regarding the progress bar for the military project, should it show anything when the project is "nothing"? In any case, it should not show partial progress as it does occasionally now. (I have not checked how a "nothing" works for a social project.)

Jack

As far as the military projects go, the extra that is in the bar when 'nothing' is selected is the little bit left over from whatever you built last.

Michael,

An amount done or left over is senseless when "nothing" is the project. Either it should be totally shaded or totally unshaded.

it's the bit left over after building the last project before you switched it to nothing. Didn't say I agreed with it, just what it appears to be. :)

Jack: the way I currently have it working is that if you were building a ship and then you cancel it, or switch the ship that was being built to a less expensive ship, you still have that amount of resources that was expended towards the ship. So if you were mostly finished building an avatar, switched to nothing for a few turns, and then built a transport, it would probably build like 3 transports over the next 3 turns because it had those incomplete resources. It's been so long since I coded that part that I don't know if that should be considered a bug or a feature. I'll add it to my list of stuff to bring up at the meeting tomorrow.

Cari,

It is building ships just like you described. I am only describing a problem with the shaded background that graphically represents the completion amount. The text is correct, the shading is not what I would expect, both for the social improvements (it is not current) and military improvements (shouldn't the shading for "nothing" be either totally shaded or not shaded?).

Well.. based on what cari said, if the resources of previous aborted builds are still available for future building (ie next item you select), then showing those resources on the status is in fact correct regardless of whether you have selected "nothing" or not.

So say you start building a project, expend 500 build points, switch it to nothing.. the progress bar should still be at that level because those 500 points are still available to be used. When you switch it to a new project, the progress bar should adjust to the new project's build point requirements.

Therefore, the question would be, can you transfer the production from one uncompleted project to the next selection, or should you take a production hit (ala Civilisation)?

Landwaster,

The progress bar is a percentage of completion graphic, not a number of shields graphic. Take a planet where you are building a battle cruiser and have it 3/4 built (approx. 110 shields) and change it to a battleship. The shadow bar changes to show the battleship is about 3/8 complete.

Hence my argument that either the shadow bar should dissapear or should span the entire area for the "nothing" project.
