Free Version-Please Help!

I have the ugly version of Windows(2000) and Im tryin to make it look better.I have a problem gettin the skin stuff to work.....
I read on here that the scroll bars cant be changed (right?) bummer
Anyways, can u change the start button and the taskbar background? or do u have to have the registered version to do that too?
Also, when I went to change the color of the start button(I think it was) it said that that advanced coloring function was only available in the real version. I didnt think I did anything "advanced". Does that just mean u cant change the color of anything if u have the free version?
