Loading screens

Rename the following files in Galciv\movies.

intro.bik
sf_intro.bik
colony_leaving.bik

Ummm...I just click through them.

You can't skip the menu anumation, but the instructions above will skip the two intro movies and the start of game movie (leave colony_leaving.bik if you still want that movie).

I have a somewhat similar problem that seems related to the Flash menu.

Earlier, I had downloaded & installed the latest patch for Galciv, Bonus Pack and Multimedia. I proceeded to click on the desktop icon and got the Flash menu. Clicked on game and got all the sounds but no picture or animation.

I uninstalled and played with the vanilla install and the same thing. Note: I did not delete the desktop icon for the game. Same thing. Now I'm getting irritated. Thankfully I have a DSL connection so I did an uninstall via Stardock Central and install the entire game from SDC. Works! One catch, the desktop icon calls up the same blank screen. I don't get this via galciv.exe.

I proceeded to install the Bonus Pack and game works but it must be via executable or SDC and not desktop icon. The same is likely to hold true for Multimedia.

Can I change the desktop icon to point to galciv.exe and just start the game this way? I did notice that I go straight to the game menu for the actul game when this route is taken.

BarryB, I think Stardock might be able to help ya with this one. By the way, excellent name! We "Barry"s need to stick together. I notice you are currently unaligned...would you like to join the Fellowship of the Ring empire? We have quite a bit of fun chatting and sharing strategy.

Ok, it seems that I was right about downloading the "Multimedia" stuff from SDC. The game seem to be working minus a couple of flickers on the main menu screen. This may not be related to my laptop being on all day.

However, the desktop shortcut just did not work. I've clicked on it since downloading each game component - main game 1.05x, Bonus Pack and Multimedia. I did a solve by simply creating a "new" shortcut and pointed to the game executable. The game seem to work fine.

A side note: It seems until the Multimedia was added, you can avoid those movies that are shown at game loading.

Any idea as to what happened to that Flash based menu?

PS. If you want to create a shortcut in Windows; just right click on the Desktop and go to New. Folow the instructions.

Some people's systems seem to have trouble with the Flash startup thing from the CD.  Generally it's a sound problem because Flash doesn't release the sound channels that it was using before starting Gal Civ, which leaves less available channels for Gal Civ.  This is a problem if your sound card does not support enough channels.
