Some users have installed IconPackager and lost the use of Windows Help & Support, the Control panel, and other programs. Restore your system, reinstall just the IconPackager and see if that caused your problems. Good luck!

Did you lose them completely or did they just come up with plain white background? If just the program comes up looking white try this link https://www.wincustomize.com/Forums.aspx?ForumID=68&AID=66400&cmd=mypostsit's an easy fix.

I can relate Masterlock....on the 22 of June, 2 days before taking vacation & leaving my home province of Nova Scotia, I noticed many of the icons in my Widgets folder were mostly coming up with the "Accessability" or Handicapped icon...tried to do a simple change the icon function with the latest release of Icon Packager & ended up locking ALL my system icons onto the one I switched in my Object Desktop Widget folder. I then decided to remove & reinstall Icon Pacdager AND Desktop X as the icon changes couldn't be switched back figuring somehow the data got corrupted. Painstakingly swithched EVERY icon in my system back to what I wanted after the reinstall & everything seemed fine....logged off for the night but in the morning when I booted up, my Security wasn't initializing. Removed THAT & called my ISP for the dowload link & re-installation walk thru....WELL.....when I tried to bring up a browser I was unable as my IBM Credit Card Ethernet driver had been removed with the Security uninstall....as we discovered when we decided to reinstall my High Speed Connection Manager....my ISP Tech & myself were totally mystified as this was a 1rst for this kind of problem. Annoyed, took my laptop & left for vacation, bought a D-Link Ethernet Card as I no longer have the disc the drivers were installed with on the IBM Card BUT the driver mini-port for my Security would NOT uninstall & in attempting to install the D-Link driver, my system isn't recognizing it ....this means that after 2 years of faithful usage with my Dell Laptop I have to reformat the forementioned & other things are still locked & refusing to change over & even the Icons I changed defaulted back to the default on reboot. I really do like what customizing can do for Desktops but it seems that yes, the Icon Packager I just updated in Stardock Central along with Desktop X have caused some truly unexpected & unnecessary problems... & SDC at times is iffy on updates.....I think I was a month late actually receiving the DX update even though I update once a week & my Icon Develper update comes up on the SDC load advising to download & doesn't update the App....I have purchased most of Stardock's products & did so separately, opting to go slow & add on App by App to see how things went year or so ago & didn't purchase the Object Desktop Suite as I had problems with Suites in freeware....I will reinstall these customization apps after the reformat & reinstallion of all my apps but should it happen again.......well, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.....

I think we found and fixed this over the holiday weekend. It wasn't showing up for everyone, but some people reported being unable to drag items around on ObjectDock.

The fix is an updated iprepair.dll that's part of IP 3.00a (which I've made available via Stardock Central or use the page at stardock.com/support to be resent the full download link). You'll need a reboot after installing it.

Failing that, Start / Run / regsvr32.exe /u "c:\program files\stardock\object desktop\iconpackager\iprepair.dll" would work around it, but then you wouldn't have the custom icons you've applied displayed inside other apps (where possible).

I'm having the same problems - Help & Support link in Start Menu not working.
Icon Packager 3.00a.091 (yes, the "fixed" version).
Windows XP Pro SP2 with latest updates
(Registered user of Object Desktop)

I've verified the problem by making restore points and going back and it works, install it, and Help & Support won't work.

So I uninstalled Icon Packager 3.00a.091, and reinstalled it, rebooted, again no Help & Support. Then I typed in the regsvr32.exe you mentioned above, rebooted and Help & Support now works.

I'm not sure what you mean by "you wouldn't have the custom icons you've applied displayed inside other apps (where possible)." I've never seen any "custom icons" inside any of my applications to begin with.

Anyway, thought I'd report my findings. Seems like the fix doesn't work on it's own without doing the extra step with regsvr32.exe.

Otherwise, outside of that small thing, I love this setup. I have the Theme Manager, Objectbar, ObjectZip, DesktopX, Icon Developer, Icon Packager, Bootskin, LogonStudio, Free CursorXP, WindowBlinds, SkinStudio and the Theme Manager installed an all working good.

I am having the same problems and feel like i just trew away 50 bucks too! Now i purchase this, install it and voila, it gives me the same problem!

Already uninstalled iconpackager, reinstalled and nothing. I tried to run de regsvr32.exe/u, but it says Windows cannot find regsvr32.exe/u??

I'm also having this problem. I've just reinstall my PC and as soon as I install the last version of IconPackager (3.00a.091) and reboot, then some programs (help and support, logical drives management, Sketchup 5, etc...) don't start anymore (in fact, they start but are stopped quickly. I can see them in the list of processes in the task manager during a very short time.)

Unregistering iprepair.dll works well to to make these programs start back.

Whitout unregistering the dll, If I use the "run as..." command to laucnh one of these programs specifying the same user and password than the logged user then it works great... (If I use the "current user" option within the "run as" command (? dont know the name of this option in english) , it doesn't work)

3dmuscle,

Do you have a space between regsvr32.exe and /u?

There needs to be one for the command to be performed.

Assuming you have Object Desktop, and it is installed to the default location, you can try copying the text below and pasting it into the run dialog box:

regsvr32.exe /u "c:\program files\stardock\object desktop\iconpackager\iprepair.dll"

You should receive a message saying the "dllunregisterservice ... succeeded".

If you want to remove the programs to get a clean shot at installing and testing:

Here is a link to the zapper utility Link, which you can download > double-click > use the "uninstall" tab to select and remove the Object Desktop programs > reboot computer > delete the Object Desktop folder in "\Program Files\Stardock" folder - then try a clean install of the programs via SDC.

Before uninstalling programs, make sure to unload all programs, and return Windows to the default theme including all icons via the Display Properties. If you have an icon theme applied, use the "Tools > Restore All Icons" in Icon Packager first.

If you go this route, when you install IconPackager - use the regsvr32.exe /u process to unregister that .dll file immmediately after installing. This may make things go better.

Note - save any skin files to a temporary folder that you want to save, test the programs that you were experiencing issues with after uninstalling Object Desktop, create a restore point before reinstalling Object Desktop that you can revert to in emergency.

As a side note, I would try installing WindowBlinds, Icon Developer, Skin Studio first - test their functionality, then install Icon Packager, unregister the iprepair.dll in question - then test Icon Packager functionality.

If all goes well, use these programs for a while before adding others to verify compatibilty with your system and other programs.

I hope this helps.

Being the stubborn the i am, i decided, after the clean install to give it one more try so i wouldn't feel like i lost my money.I started with the stardock central and then, i downloaded only the desktopx, then when i restarted the computer, the same problems were back. Internet browser was not working properly(firefox worked fine),no access to "search" from the start menu(blank browser, only the little dog was there!) and it does not launch the help and support from the start menu as well.

I am using XP service pack 2. I am very disappointed that i had to struggle with this to make it work and could not find any kind of solution. Tried everything suggested here, so i am very upset about this. I got rid of the desktopx but the problem persists and for some reason i can't get the stardock central uninstalled, so i am afraid i will need another clean install to get rid of everything, so i won't be messing with this anymore.

Am i the only one having this kind of problem? As far as i understood this was only caused by icon packager, but my last attempt was with desktopx installed only.

Anyway, thanks guys for trying to help me.

For me this is DEFINITELY a DX issue. Maybe it's in other programs as well. Here's my story. I first noticed the problem because Windows Media Player would not load. ("An internal application error occured.") Then I noticed that Help and Support wouldn't load and that the search dialog box just had the stupid little mutt at the bottom. Also, Windows Update wouldn't load. I found the article in the MS KB about "Several Dialog Boxes are Blank" which fit the bill exactly.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;831430

I ran the two regserv commands that it lists and things work like a charm, UNTIL I REBOOT. So, I snagged a registry tracker and found that "DXWidget.exe" is running a "SetValue" for vbscript.dll several times while I boot. Shortly there after, DVWidget does an "OpenKey" query and it can't find vbscript.dll. Appearently nothing else can find vbscript.dll either.

I'm going to uninstall DX and IconPackager and see if that fixes the issue.

Later...

P.S. Here are the entries I'm talking about for the programming types.

568330: DXWidget.exe:3556 SetValue HKCR\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}\InprocServer32\(Default) SUCCESS "c:\windows\system32\vbscript.dll"

568330: DXWidget.exe:3556 SetValue HKCR\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}\InprocServer32\(Default) SUCCESS "c:\windows\system32\vbscript.dll"

568477: DXWidget.exe:3556 OpenKey HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\vbscript.dll NOT FOUND

I've done more testing and I'm 100% sure that this is a DX issue, so I'm going to start a thread on DX.

Hi folks - had the same prob with a lot of nothing there - thought I was going to have to re-install everything... did a lot of searching but wasn't really sure of what I was looking for - came here by accident - tried the link to MS that Stageman had on his post - worked like a charm - all is well in my world - re-booted and all continues to be well - it was a Java script error. Thought i would pass this along as i can see how frustrated some are getting. Also from the fine prov of NS - could it be somehting in the salt air - or our ISP's???
Good luck. By the way I haven't tried any of the stuff on this site - and now probably won't.

I have the same dang problem, and now I'm beginning to regret ever getting this software. Icons get screwed up, COD4 doesn't work with Windows Blinds, I get random crashes after installing DesktopX... what a piece of ....

I think this is a little TOO OLD to be continuing...and VERY likely not related.

Three years, guys.

It would be more appropriate to have a new thread.....;)
