Beta 2 - Indestructable Defenders, unmanageable colonies
from
GalCiv2 Forums
So, I played a quick Beta 2 game. It seems I've had much less trouble with this Beta than most. Download went fine, activation went fine as soon as I granted it access through the firewall. No crashes to report.
However, there were some bugs. Major ones:
-I'm not 100% sure if this is a bug, but I certainly hope it is: combat does not cost a move. I had a technologically advanced ship called Cruiser II, and it could pound Drengin Defenders forever thanks to this.
-However, the above bug did not allow me to defeat their entire fleet in a turn (it took more
) due to another bug: an indestructable stack of Defenders out in space on a single tile. No matter how many times I attacked and won with the Cruiser II mentioned above, the stack did not seem to lose any defenders. What I ended up doing was wiping out the defense of a nearby planet in Thindor, ending turn so that the Drengins filled it back up to maximum capacity with Defenders, and wiping it out again. (They lost their defenders just fine in orbit.)
After I had wiped out the fleet they built up, a Defender would still be produced here and there. I hunted these down with my wonderful Cruiser II, and had no trouble destroying these single defenders even if they were out of orbit on a space tile. It was this one stack that someone had indestructibility.
After posting this I'll send a save to scott@stardock.com with the title "GalCiv2: Indestructible Ships Save" and a copy of this post. It seems to me that upon loading the save the Defenders become destructible once again, but that if you instead leave them alone and hit the Turn button, they will be back to full indestructibliity the next turn.
-Conquered colonies are not manageable. Whenever I conquered a colony the grid would never show green and yellow tiles or allow me to build anything. I could change the starport build, but the planetary side of things never returned to normal; it was as if I was looking at a planet from orbit, not knowing where the green tiles were and not being able to build anything. The same save I mentioned above should have some conquered planets in it, though I forgot to check whether they still have this problem upon loading.
Minor Bug: In the tech screen, I sometimes will not be able to select a tech depending on what tech I've selected before it. (By "select" I mean click on a tech to have its info pop up on the bottom right, I don't mean choosing it as research.) For instance, in the medical field, if I click on Soil Enhancement, I cannot click on the tech below it (I forget the name); I must instead click on one of the other techs, then click on the one below Soil Enhancement.
Interesting note, not a bug so far as I know: The Torians surrendered to the Drengins while I was in research mode. Once I built my own military and saw the huge swarm of Defenders the Drengins had built, I could understand why.
