Beta 2 - Race selection screen issue

In the race selection screen, I have noticed that you cannot choose the name, nor gender of your leader. Seeing as this is a unified Earth (or where ever), I would think that the possibility of a female leader would be quite high with the exception of the Yor. I, as one of many female gamers out there, strongly recommend you provide an option for female leaders and the renaming of your leader. It makes me sad to see that it has not been included yet, and that GC1 went out the door without such changes. I recall this being a part of even the first TBS games. Why isn't it part of GC?

You know, being a bloke, I never noticed that. There are alot of TBS games out there which didn't allow you to pick your races gender though, so I wouldn't say Stardock are a special case here.

On the other hand, the only time you 'see' your character is on the race selection screen, and that is simply a picture of either 'a' alien (I dunno what the visible differences are between male and female Torians....) or some bloke in a tux. Once the game starts I cant think of a single he/she reference to your 'character'.

I thought you could change the leaders name though, will have to check that.

Its something that we put into Political Machine, so I dont see why we can't do the same for GC

There are a couple of gender specific references in GC1 but I tried to make sure that there were as few as possible.  Being a girl gamer myself, and the lead developer on GC1, that concerns me also.  You will be able to rename your leader in GC2.  Right now, the only place you can set your leader name is by editing the race.

As Cari mentioned, there are a few in GC1. They're mostly in the random events where it refers to your leader as "Lord" or "Mr." or "he/his/him". I believe there was also a reference in the Galactic Council, but I can't remember off hand. What I did to account for this was run through the event files and replace every instance of it with Lady, Ms., or she/hers/her. Even with that I still missed a couple. *shrugs*

I am glad to see that the team is so active on this forum. Sooooo many games I've played and/or beta'ed where the only person you actually speak to is a representative, not the actual team. BRAVO (BRAVA ) Stardock!
