How do you go about assembling your desktop?

For me, most of the time, it usually revolves around a great wallpaper that I've found. Then I'll select a windowblind to go around it... Next comes an iconpackage, which may or may not be part of the windowblind suite. Then I'll look for a matching rainlendar, DesktopX objects and a CursorXP theme to tie everything together (again, sometimes they may or may not be part of the windowblind suite). On rare occasions, however, I have built-up my desktop around a DesktopX wiget or a winamp skin.

How do you go about the process of assembling your desktop?

I start with the blind, set toolbar icons and animations to my liking, then add a iconpackage to match, tweak Iconx properties for mouseovers and active items, choose an OD+ background to match or change it's color (I don't use a taskbar) then add a sysmetrix (or rainmeter) skin, then change my winamp, opera and any other programs that have their own skin to match. Then I look for a wallpaper that fits with everything. I rarely use suites.

Before DX3, I would occasionally start with a DX desktop. That requires many more hours of cutomization than I usually have available.

I start with Photoshop and end with a good looking PC. Take a WB design i like and change colors,make a wall for it and choose icons and any other programs that have skins.

I start with a WB, then I choose an IconPack a Rainy a SysMetrix a Winamp a WMP and finally I'll set a Wallpaper. Bootskin and Logon are optional

~Most of the time its a great wall that inspires me. Then I find a blind but usually recolor an older favorite. Then comes the winamp, icons are usually recolored. Then come the " Extra's "
But, I have also built a desktop around 1 loose Icon or a Widget or two

This process can take a day to 5 days

That was a legacy of copy/paste....it actually did the font at 24 point...so I dumped it back to match the original....

You are much too subtle Jafo. A good hammer, pliers and baling wire usualy do the trick

I start with a wall or windowblind then sysmetrix followed by icons and cursor and finaly object dock. Probably not the best for a screenshot but im new to this

I use Paint shop Pro to "throw up" some images to create a wall. I then try to match a killer blind and a cursor to match. My object Dock is hidden but set up to launch my rainy, sys, weather, and a bunch of other stuff at a quick click.

I went to a bush stock-car race once....where the main 'tools' for repairs appeared to be a sledge hammer and a chainsaw....

Back on topic .... I use alternate shells [Litestep] so much of the desktop is pre-ordained...

No real methodology ... just whatever strikes my fancy at the moment.
