Self Help Book
(Author note: Everyone of us blows it sometime)
from

I planned to go
to the bookstore
and find a title
to fix our problems
but I realized
I didn't need
the diversion of
someone else's opinion-
like there's anything helpful
they could tell me
anyway
I don't have
simple problems like
"my wife won't let me
watch football" or
"I want to play golf more" or
anything about
NASCAR
my problems are more like:
how do I fix her memory
to forget about how I hurt her
how can I make her happy
all the time
how can I write the perfect
line to express the sadness
adequately and win her
eternal love back
how do I go back to
before I blew things apart?
I don't need a
self-help book,
I need a time
machine.
So
with pen in hand
I scratch out
struggle to find
words so I'll
understand
better
and maybe be
better
I'm writing
my own self-help book
one poem at a time.
